Do the Cabal destroy our sun in Destiny 2? What do you see at the end of the trailer?
Some Guardians may not have noticed during the influx of information about Destiny 2: At the end of the official gameplay trailer, the sun explodes. Or does it? What exactly happens in the last seconds?
We mark the point for you:
You see a gigantic weapon shooting a blue beam into the sun. Consequently, the sun explodes and directly destroys the nearest planet. Many Guardians immediately wrote in shock in the comments: “Our sun is destroyed – along with Mercury!” This is why Destiny 2 is also called “a world without light”. But is that really going to happen? After all, life on Earth would be unthinkable without the sun.
Warning: Possible spoilers ahead!
One thing seems certain: The Cabal can destroy the sun
The Cabal represent the greatest known military power in the system. Almost a year ago, Bungie said we still had no idea of the true strength of the Cabal.
In the game, we get very little information about them. Right at the first encounter on Mars, our Ghost tells us: They weigh 350 kg, are heavily armed, and can easily blow up planets and moons.
In other words: The Cabal possess weapons that can simply destroy planets that stand in their way.
Apparently, they even have weapons capable of blowing up a sun. Because the gigantic weapon undoubtedly belongs to the Cabal, as can be inferred from these scenes in the gameplay material:
You can see that Guardians will definitely be fighting on this super-weapon that is currently attacking the sun. The Arcstrider fights against Cabal units. The design of the weapon and the objects on it strongly resemble Cabal architecture. In short: The weapon comes from the Cabal.
Hypothesis: It’s not our sun that explodes – but it is in danger
But why are we fighting on this weapon? And if the sun, as shown in the trailer, is destroyed – have we lost the battle, and will we be annihilated?
Now we are in the realm of pure speculation. One theory that makes sense: The sun that explodes in the trailer is not our sun. Instead, it could be a flashback showing what the Cabal are capable of. A demonstration that they have already blown up stars. And such a fate could also befall our solar system if we do not manage to stop the Cabal.
The YouTuber “My name is Byf” puts forth this hypothesis: The Guardians will succeed in thwarting Ghaul’s plans and reclaiming the Traveler’s light. Therefore, the Cabal resort to their ultimate attack and use this super-weapon against our sun. That’s why we have to fight against the Cabal on this weapon, as seen in the gameplay material. With the aim of preventing our sun from suffering the same fate as the star that explodes in the trailer.
However, there’s also this theory: The Cabal are actually trying to blow up our sun. Here we can see a scene in which three Guardians are standing on Vex structures, looking toward a “sun” and several asteroids:
Where these Guardians actually are and “what exactly is being seen here” is unclear. Perhaps the Guardians need to use Vex technology to change the past.
Interesting: The huge weapon seems not only to be connected to the sun via the blue beam but also to another astronomical object:
A beam of rocks connects this object to the weapon. What this means is purely speculative.
What do you think? What happens to our sun in Destiny 2?
