In Destiny 2 the new dungeon starts next week. The reason I am looking forward to it so eagerly has to do with my favorite PvE experience in the “shattered throne” and high hopes.
There’s a lot to do in Destiny: Since the launch of Shadowkeep, players have been continuously entertained with fresh PvE and PvP content. And with the upcoming reset on October 29, the Guardians will have plenty to do:
- The Festival of the Lost invites players to join the spooky Halloween atmosphere and themed loot.
- Bungie wants to connect Destiny’s PvP with the Halo times.
- A new exotic weapon quest is going live for Shadowkeep owners.
- A new dungeon opens its Taken gates on the moon.
The yet unnamed dungeon is meant to take us deeper into the abyss beneath the ominous Taken fortress. I am particularly looking forward to this descent, although we don’t know much about the upcoming activity yet. This is due to the “Shattered Throne”.
What is The Shattered Throne? Behind the melodious name “The Shattered Throne” (eng. Shattered Throne) hides the first dungeon in the history of Destiny. Dungeons in Destiny 2 are like mini-raids for up to three players. As in the large 6-Guardian activities, puzzles must be solved, jumping passages overcome, and tough bosses defeated.
This dark dungeon is set in the Ascendant Realm of Queen Mara Sov and has an almost indescribably creepy-beautiful atmosphere.
The architecture skillfully combines fairy-tale elements with nightmarish aspects. Huge monuments and church-like structures seem to slowly sink into the darkness. Everything appears destroyed, almost deconstructed. Nevertheless, one can still recognize what splendor once existed here.
Accompanied by the picturesque backdrop, the Guardians have to fight their way through labyrinths and find their way to the top of the mysterious citadel. At the end, the witch Dûl Incaru awaits the players.
The Taken Sorceress is responsible for the curse that plagues the “Dreaming City”. The endgame area of Forsaken is stuck in a cursed cycle thanks to her. The prominent uncle of the witch should be familiar to most Destiny players: Oryx, King of the Taken.
Why the hunt for the Taken Lady excites me time and time again, and what makes the dungeon so enjoyable for me, I would like to briefly explain to you.
My personal adventures and highlights
The atmosphere: I enjoy entering the raids of Destiny very much. On the one hand, it’s due to the challenge, but also the usually powerful loot. Just think of the famous Raid Exotics like the “Thousand Voices”. Another important factor is my raid team. For years, our small team has been standing up against the darkness.
In a similar vein is the “Shattered Throne”. This time, however, I can even admire the incredibly good art design at my leisure. If we are honest, there is always bustling activity in the party chats. One can hardly pay attention to the visually stunning environment.
The combination of the environment, light effects, and design is a personal highlight for me. Just upon entering the location, an overarching tower emerges from the darkness. It is immediately clear: This is the objective.
Finally arrived at the top, the Taken Witch is tantalizingly waiting at the other end of the room. But the fight doesn’t start immediately; the turned-away sorceress gazes into the void of darkness from some sort of balcony. It reminds me every time of a classic film villain.

The difficulty – Challenging but fair: Another highlight for me is the challenge. With two strong boss fights and creative intermediate passages, the dungeon offers just the right opportunity to show off your painstakingly optimized gear.
The Shattered Throne rewards daring Guardians particularly. If you manage to defeat the dungeon completely alone, there is a unique emblem for bragging rights. Since I was so thrilled by the activity, I had to take on the solo run.
What did I complain about! Sometimes a trap threw me into the abyss, other times, I was overwhelmed by the masses of enemies, and at other times, the Taken Knights took me out with just one shot. But with enough practice and patience, I was ultimately able to overcome all those dangers.
The greatest tension arose during the first boss fight. In a massive dungeon, an angry ogre must be taken down. However, he is immune until you receive a buff from four witches. And all sides are firing at the same time, pure challenge and thrill.
More about the first dungeon: I can only recommend the Shattered Throne to everyone. Whether in a team or solo, experience it for yourself. Since Shadowkeep, it’s been easily accessible from the orbit.
If you want to know more about the first dungeon, you should watch the following video. Bungie released a stream in which they explore the Shattered Throne. The viewer receives interesting insider knowledge and background information from the developers and artists.
Watch Shattered Throne Ride Along – Monday 4/29 @ 2:30pm by Bungie on www.twitch.tvHopes for the new Shadowkeep dungeon: Bungie is aware of how well the first dungeon was received. Besides the elaborate dungeon-like missions Whispers and Hour Zero, the Shattered Throne is one of the favorite PvE activities – not just for me, but for the Destiny community.
High expectations want to be met. I am optimistic that our adventures in the dungeons of the Shadowkeep will be impressive if Bungie delivers even remotely the quality seen in the Shattered Throne. And what has been seen so far definitely whets the appetite for more – at least for me.
For, besides some info snippets and images that show, among other things, a fiery Taken Knight impressively, the atmosphere simply looks amazing. There should also be rewards again for daring Guardians who face the horrors alone.
This time, the architecture doesn’t seem to have sprung from a nightmarish Tim Burton film. Instead, it draws more from fantasy works like The Lord of the Rings. Jagged spikes, gothic shapes, and claustrophobic corridors resemble fortress-like structures in Mordor like Barad Dûr (the name fits perfectly into the Destiny universe).
This also makes me eager for more: This time, specific loot is on board. It is known that unique weapons are waiting for the Guardians in the new dungeon. Thematically, these firearms with their spikes and edges resemble the Taken enemies. Such a unique, thematic loot was still missing in the Shattered Throne. The more I look forward to going into the unexplored depths beneath the Taken fortress on the moon next Tuesday.

Are you as excited as I am for the new Taken dungeon? What are your personal Destiny highlights? And what do you think of the Shattered Throne? Do you wish for more such activities?
