One of the best and most well-known Destiny 2 players, Esoterickk, has quickly mastered the Volundr forge from the Black Armory solo right after its launch. But how did he manage that?
Who is Esoterickk? The famous Destiny player and streamer Esoterickk is among the top players in Destiny 2 and has repeatedly demonstrated that he can tackle content in Destiny solo that many other Guardians struggle with, even as a team.
This is how Esoterickk has already showcased his skills in the following activities:
- Esoterickk mastered the Broken Throne solo and without weapons
- He also managed the first phase of the Argos fight in the Leviathan raid solo
- Furthermore, Esoterickk was one of the first to complete a Nightfall strike on Prestige difficulty solo in Destiny 2

Specifically, the new Volundr Forge was considered a tough nut to crack for a large majority of Guardians at launch. Bungie subsequently lowered the requirements of the forge by five power levels in all rounds.
However, even with this change, the forge remains a challenging task for fireteams of three players. Esoterickk has completed the forge solo.

But how did he manage that? In a post on Reddit, the player describes his tactics that led to his success.
How Esoterickk soloed the Volundr Forge
Which class and equipment did Esoterickk use to triumph? To even have a realistic chance, it is crucial to ensure that your Guardian has a permanent means to regenerate health.
Esoterickk achieved this with the Warlock and his Voidwalker focus. The talent tree Devour grants the perk Devour. This allows you to regenerate health after a void melee kill.

In combination with the Karnstein Armlets, you can trigger this effect repeatedly. The exotic perk of the armor, Vampiric Embrace, allows you to regenerate health with each melee kill.
An Arc Titan with the Unyielding Sentinel can also achieve this effect. The downside is: You need to land shoulder charges to regenerate health. However, Esoterickk’s tactic is not designed for constant movement.

With this tactic, Esoterickk conquered the forge: According to the streamer, the second round posed the biggest challenge. The heavily armored Gladiators can really heat things up if you fail to eliminate them quickly.
- Round 1: The left side of the arena proved to be an ideal spot for Esoterickk. The smaller Psions posed no significant threat, allowing the Guardian to regularly collect new orbs and place them in the forge.
- Round 2: Suddenly, the left side of the arena no longer offered a consistent flow of enemies, requiring a tactical shift to place the needed 20 orbs before the timer expired. So, Esoterickk moved to the right side of the arena. The key is to take out the Gladiators quickly; otherwise, the timer will run out.

- Round 3: Esoterickk was again able to comfortably complete the third round on the left side of the arena. Hidden behind a rock, he took aim at the boss enemy until he was finally defeated.
Esoterickk defeated the forge with a power level of 632, thus slightly above the required level of 630 for the boss enemy. You can watch the exact sequence in the following video:
