Today, September 15th, marks the beginning of the first Trials of the Nine in Destiny 2. On which map will it be played? What is the game mode? And what do I need to know about the new trials?
Today, Friday at 7 PM, the first Trials of the Nine in Destiny 2 will begin. These represent a hardcore PvP mode, in which there are expected to be powerful items to win.
In Destiny 1, these trials were called “Trials of Osiris“. You had to achieve multiple consecutive victories to earn the rewards. A journey to the Lighthouse, where the best loot was found, could only be won with a “flawless ticket”. For that, you needed 9 wins and could not have a loss on the ticket.
In fact, very little is known about this activity just before the launch of the “Trials of the Nine”. The new trials will take place on several maps in different game modes (both change weekly), they will be played in 4v4, and according to data mining, a woman with a creepy voice will be the announcer.

According to an infographic from Bungie, this is the map and the game mode:
- Map: Eternity
- Game Mode: Countdown
- Start: September 15th at 7 PM
- End: Expected to be September 19th at 11 AM
Update: 7:05 PM: The Guardians are looking for the trials. Apparently, you must complete the “Call to Arms” milestone to receive the “Trials of the Nine” milestone. The loadout is locked. During the matches, you cannot change items. Level advantages are disabled. You do not need a “ticket”.
There are 10 slots. Presumably 7 slots for victories and 3 slots for defeats. These will be displayed above the trials symbol in the Crucible.
Update 7:20 PM: Bungie announces the access requirements: You must have completed the campaign, mastered the “Call to Arms” milestone at least once, and have at least 260 Power.
Update 7:27 PM:
- Before a match, all opponents will be presented with their loadouts, so everyone knows what the others are playing.
- The “Herald” will speak to you.
- You need 6 round victories to win a match. As a reward, there are “Trials of the Nine” tokens among others.
- In the Crucible, after a victory, there is a new place you can choose above the trials symbol. “The Third Pillar: Unknown Room”. The Herald welcomes you there. Here you can hand in the tokens:
Last night, Bungie teased the Trials of the Nine with a short video. We have embedded it above. It shows three circles forming the new logo for the trials.
This logo corresponds to the Destiny 2 trophy symbol for “So You Don’t Get Judged“. The requirement is: Make acquaintance with a Herald from beyond. This foreigner will likely be met through the trials. It might be the shadow figure briefly seen in the above video:
