Warlocks and Hunters bring skills in Destiny 2 that you should not unlock. We explain to you why this is the case!
Your Guardians have unlockable skills that fundamentally improve your characters. By collecting experience points, you unlock upgrade points that you use to activate these Guardian skills.
For each Guardian class (Titan, Hunter, Warlock) you have access to 3 subclasses, from which you can choose two skill trees each.
Each of these skill trees offers four skills that can be unlocked. Ideally, you should unlock all four skills of a talent tree to get the most out of the respective subclass.
However, there are exceptions to this rule – skills that should not be unlocked because they also come with disadvantages. Find out in our article which skills are involved.
The Hunter’s Sixfold Perk
The Hunter has access to two skill trees with his focus Gunslinger:
- The Way of the Outlaw grants bonuses to reload speeds and allows the use of an exploding throwing knife.
- The Way of the Sniper, which grants various bonuses for precision hits.
The perk Sixfold is located in the talent tree Way of the Outlaw and grants you six shots with the Super ability Golden Gun instead of three. While this may not sound bad at first, it comes with disadvantages.
However, you must accept significant reductions in the duration of the Golden Gun. Activating the perk reduces the duration from 15 seconds to six seconds. Six seconds in which you must hit as many targets as possible.
Let’s look at the impact of this perk for both PvE and PvP content:
- PvE – With the Sixfold perk, you can deal considerable damage to a boss. “Unfortunately”, the Hunter has access to the Celestial Nighthawk – an exotic helmet that grants only one shot with the Golden Gun but deals immense damage (even more than with the Sixfold skill). If you play with the Celestial Nighthawk, you are better off with the Way of the Sniper, as critical hits with the skill Marked for Death deal more damage. The Sixfold skill is unnecessary.
- PvP – The Way of the Outlaw is a great build for multiplayer mode in itself; the Chain of Sorrow affects reload speed, and the exploding knife is also helpful. Additionally, your hit chance with the Golden Gun increases. Unfortunately, you won’t see six opponents that you can take down with the Golden Gun in six seconds. The perk is a complete waste in PvP.
The Sixfold skill thus brings you no advantage against computer-controlled enemies or human players. Since the Way of the Outlaw is still a good build in PvP, we advise against unlocking the Sixfold perk.
The Hunter’s Möbius Quiver
The Hunter has another ability that you should preferably not activate. The subclass Nighthawk brings the following talent trees:
- The Way of the Trapper specializes in confusing enemies and the ability to approach them unnoticed.
- The Way of the Pathfinder offers support abilities and strong area control.
The perk Möbius Quiver is located in the Way of the Pathfinder. The perk description states that quick shots can be fired with the Shadowshot and deal significant damage to tethered targets.
This doesn’t sound bad at first. However, there is an exotic “problem” related to this perk called Orpheus Rig. These exotic boots recharge your ability energy with each tethered enemy. If you hit 7-8 enemies simultaneously, your Super is immediately ready to use again.
As an added bonus, you can generate a large number of Orbs of Light for your allies in a short time. The Orpheus Rig boots are rightfully considered one of the best exotic armor pieces for the Hunter.
Unfortunately, the Möbius Quiver perk makes the boots nearly useless. Because the exotic perk of the boots is only activated once you have fired your last arrow.
Since you will have already taken down enemies with the other arrows, the boots no longer provide the bonuses that would have been possible. An additional disadvantage of the perk is that the duration of your Super is reduced. Since the other perks of the Way of the Pathfinder are quite useful for PvE content, you should not activate the Möbius Quiver!
The Catastrophe Skill of the Warlock
The Warlock also struggles with a skill that has a rather negative impact on gameplay. Those who play with the Voidwalker focus of the Warlock can choose from the following skill sets:
- Chaos Reach focuses on enhancing your abilities,
- Devour drastically improves your survivability.
The perk Catastrophe in the skill set Chaos Reach transforms the Nova Bomb into a slowly flying projectile that splits into smaller, homing projectiles upon impact. Sounds good at first, but in practice, it proves to be extremely disadvantageous:
- PvE – You always want to detonate a Nova Bomb when as many enemies as possible can be hit. If the Nova Bomb flies slowly, the group may have spread out by then. The Nova Bomb and the resulting projectiles can get stuck on corners and doors – especially a problem with mobile enemies and bosses.
- PvP – Players can run away from the Nova Bomb and hide. The special form of the Super is completely useless here.
The rest of the skill tree is quite interesting. You can enhance your grenades with Super energy. Your melee attacks recharge your grenades, and Void kills cause enemies to explode. A great offensive orientation is countered by the slow Nova Bomb.
It’s a pity that Bungie has introduced skills into the game that are rather disadvantageous even in combination with exotic armors. We hope that Bungie improves these abilities in future updates to increase the incentive to use them.
Note: Once you have upgraded a skill with an upgrade point, this cannot be undone.
