Destiny 2 offers many ways to level up. Up to a Power Level of 270, almost all activities grant loot that advances you. And you don’t even have to play in a team!
Even though Destiny 2 is an excellent co-op game, not every Guardian is automatically willing to play with others. Additionally, not every player has friends who play Destiny 2.
Fortunately, Destiny 2 also offers perfect opportunities for solo players to quickly level up. To help you not feel overwhelmed by the many activities, we provide a guide that will help you easily reach the magical value of 280, which allows you to obtain legendary mods from the gunsmith that will further advance your Power Level.
Join a Clan!
This tip may seem strange, after all, this is about solo players. But on second thought, it makes a lot of sense. Because the weekly rewards for clan membership are worth it. Every activity completed by a clan member provides clan XP, which helps the clan level up.
This brings you permanent and seasonal benefits such as better rewards for public events, more Glimmer, or more loot when you take out Cabal. You can take advantage of all these benefits when you join a clan.
But that’s not all – all clan members receive high Power Level engrams for completing up to four weekly milestones such as the raid or the Trials of the Nine. You don’t even need to be actively involved.
But: Even if solo players do not actively participate in these activities, they can still help collect weekly clan XP. Both sides benefit from this – the clan and the solo player!
If you have to play solo because none of your friends play Destiny 2, the clan could be the solution to all your problems. It’s not uncommon for chance acquaintances to become friends. Give it a try, it’s worth it.
These activities will get you to Power Level 265-270
These activities will specifically get you to a Power Level of 265-270. Keep in mind that just by completing the story campaign you will reach around Power Level 200:
- The Merchants – Level up the planetary merchant factions using tokens. This grants you legendary gear that will definitely move you forward. Approximately 20 tokens are needed per level-up.
- Public Events – The fastest way to level up, as they can be completed quickly and also grant tokens.
- Lost Sectors – Completed areas in each location with a boss at the end. Eliminate them and loot the chest.
- The Strike Playlist – Strikes are also a welcome change, although they take a bit longer.
- Crucible – In PvP, you can also get loot that can boost your Power Level.
You therefore have various activities available that offer plenty of variety! With the following tips, you can speed up your leveling process even further!
Complete Patrol Missions!
You unlock patrol missions during the campaign. They can be easily done alongside public events or while farming chests.
The tasks range from killing a certain number of enemies to scouting a specified location. As a reward for these quick and easy tasks, you will receive tokens and can level your merchant factions faster.
Complete public events heroically!
Public events are a great way to level up. They are quick, and usually there are a few other Guardians nearby to help you. Complete public events heroically as often as possible!
Because these yield better rewards, including exotic engrams, and can significantly boost your Power Level. How to unlock the heroic part of each public event, you can find out in our handy guide!
The best location for farming public events is Titan. There are only two spots for events here and only two possibilities for which event can actually take place: The Fallen event with the walker and the Hive event Witch Ritual. In the meantime, you can farm chests and collect tokens. A win-win-win situation!
Pro Tip: Are you alone in the area and a public event is about to start? Teleport to the event location as long as it takes via fast travel until you find other players. This works because each fast travel grants you a new instance (as long as you are playing solo).
The Bottleneck at Power Level 265-270
For a long time, almost every activity will progress you – until you reach the point where you hit Power Level 265-270. If you can no longer see significant progress, do not panic! It is a turning point in the game where the leveling process and the activities meant for it change.
You will now move away from the planetary factions and token collecting and towards completing weekly milestones and gathering exotic engrams. Once you reach this bottleneck, you can tackle these weekly milestones to obtain powerful gear:
- The Call to Arms – To master the milestone, you need to complete 8-10 Crucible matches. It does not matter whether you choose Quick Play or the Competitive mode.
- The Nightfall Strike – If you are alone, you can use Bungie’s Guided Game feature. It should be available to everyone from September 26.
- Flashpoints – Complete several public events at one location. Then the tasty loot is yours.
- Clan Rewards – If you have joined a clan, it’s time to benefit from it. You will receive engrams for the four weekly challenges and for reaching the personal target of 5,000 clan XP. You can also collect XP solo for the Clan XP milestone.
Save the Exotic Quests!
In each of the four worlds, you will find a blue-marked quest once you have completed the main campaign. Aside from the quest on Io (which you are welcome to tackle anyway), the other questlines will lead you to powerful exotic weapons. Even though the temptation is great, do this as late as possible.
Because the weapons you receive after the quests will be at a very high Power Level and will definitely advance you. Since you receive the weapons based on your current Power Level, save them! You can only do the quests once per character.
The following weapons can be obtained by completing the quests:
- MIDA Multi-Tool – arguably the best scout rifle in the game. As part of the quest, you can also earn its little brother, the MIDA Mini-Tool. In our detailed guide, you can find out how to acquire the MIDA Multi-Tool.
- The Rat King – An exotic pistol that becomes stronger the more allies use this weapon. Find out in our guide how to grab the coveted Rat King pistol!
- Thunderlord – The exotic hand cannon and its pistol counterpart are a strong combination. In our guide, you can learn how to obtain the Sturm & Drang weapons!
Do not complete all exotic quests one after the other. You should only tackle them once you’ve reached the Power Level 265-270 bottleneck and completed the weekly milestones. Finish one exotic quest, continue playing normally, and tackle the next quest when you notice that your Power Level isn’t increasing anymore.
Infuse Exotic Gear!
Destiny 2 allows you to equip exactly two exotic gear items: one weapon and one armor piece. If you find an exotic item that would increase your Power Level at the expense of another exotic piece in a different slot, do not hesitate to infuse the found exotic item if you can benefit from it.
Any exotic piece you find can always be retrieved from the collection from the vault, so it’s not lost. The ultimate goal is to reach Power Level 280, which grants you access to Banshee’s legendary mods. With these mods, you can further increase your level, and thus find more items in the wild that can advance you.
You will find that infusing exotic items is a good way to level up – so don’t hesitate!
Every Tuesday is Christmas!
It’s the weekend and you’ve reached a point where you’re stuck? Do not worry – the way to great gear opens up every Tuesday when the milestones reset and can be completed again.
At higher levels, these milestones represent the best way to level up, so use them! You can also tackle the local challenges that promise further rewards.
Treasure maps can also be useful as they can lead you to Exotics.
Solo players can also benefit from fireteams!
Matchmaking is integrated into the Strike Playlist, and together with two other Guardians, you can go on a criminal hunt. The most important item here is the fireteam medallion.
You receive one of these medallions after completing the main campaign from Tess Everis in the Eververse. You can purchase more for 50 Shards each. You do not need to spend any money to buy these. Just dismantle any ships, sparrows, or other Eververse items you no longer need to gather enough Shards.
The fireteam medallion grants you and your fireteam increased experience and better rewards for four hours. This also applies to other activities like Crucible or public events. The medallion works even when you’re out on your own. Therefore, it’s best to always have a medallion active.
Summary: Destiny 2 offers excellent opportunities for lone players to level up. Play as you like, whether slowly or quickly – there is something for everyone here. Save your high-level rewards until you reach a point where you can no longer progress.
