The Sleeper Simulant is back! Like its counterpart from the first Destiny, the weapon in Destiny 2 is also tied to a longer questline. How you can obtain the linear fusion rifle, we explain here.
With the latest DLC “Warmind,” the Sleeper Simulant, known from Destiny 1, is making its return. As in the original, the weapon is also tied to a longer questline in Destiny 2 that requires multiple steps.
This is the Sleeper Simulant in Destiny 2
What can the Sleeper Simulant do? The exotic perk of the linear fusion rifle, Chain Reaction, ensures that the fired laser of the Sleeper Simulant pierces through enemies and is deflected by hard surfaces.

In addition, the following perks apply:
- Polygonal Rifling: Reduces recoil and increases stability
- Extended Mag: Significantly faster reload, and slightly increased stability
- Marksmanship: Increased movement speed and target acquisition while moving and using the sights
- Composite Stock: Slightly increased stability and weapon readiness speed
How to obtain the Sleeper Simulant
The Sleeper Simulant is tied to a somewhat longer questline, which you can approach after completing the campaign of DLC II. First, speak with Zavala in the Tower after the last story mission. Then return to Mars to Ana Bray, who now has a world quest for you.
Quest Step “Data Retrieval”: The world quest “Data Retrieval” is quite self-explanatory and sends you back to Rasputin’s memory storage. Once you’ve completed the additional quest steps “Legacy Code” and “A Part of the Past,” you will receive the hand cannon IKELOS_HFW_V1.0.1 from Ana. You’ll need this weapon for the further quest progress.

You will also receive additional tasks that you can track via the new “Quests” tab in your inventory. The tasks are as follows:
- Defeat Hive and Cabal enemies with precision shots from your IKELOS
- Kill enemies with a yellow health bar while equipped with the IKELOS
- Complete five heroic strikes while equipped with the IKELOS
- Complete three levels of the Escalation Protocol event and find 15 Sleeper Nodes, while equipped with the IKELOS
- It doesn’t matter whether you do three levels in a row at Escalation Protocol or do one level three times
- The level is considered completed when the respective round boss is defeated
- Complete the mission “Will of Thousands” at level 360 while equipped with the IKELOS
How to open the Sleeper Nodes with Override Frequencies
The quest Approaching Dusk leads the search for the resonance stems you need to open the Sleeper Nodes. During the course of the quest, you will obtain the resonance stems, four of which can always be combined into an Override Frequency.
In total, you need 60 stems to open the 15 required Sleeper Nodes for the Sleeper Simulant. You can read everything about the Override Frequencies in our corresponding guide:
If you have completed all tasks in this questline, you can pick up the Sleeper Simulant from Ana Bray on Mars.
