When can Destiny 2 be played? What time does it start on release day?
Destiny 2 launches on September 6 on PS4 and Xbox One. We have known this for a few months now. But when exactly does it start? This is a question many players are currently asking.
Confusion about the exact server start of Destiny 2
During E3, the project lead Mark Noseworthy revealed that there will be a “rolling midnight launch.” This means that in different time zones around the world, it will start at 00:01 on September 6. This means that Australians can start before us Europeans, and Americans will have to wait longer.
So: In Germany, you can start on Wednesday, September 6, at 00:01.
A tweet from the American PlayStation Twitter account is now causing confusion. It states that you can already start Destiny 2 on September 5 at 9PM Pacific if you preorder through the PlayStation Store. This is three hours before midnight in this time zone on the West Coast. In German time, that would be at 6 AM on September 6.
How is this to be interpreted? This announcement likely does not change the “rolling midnight launch.” Because 9PM on the West Coast corresponds to midnight on the East Coast of the USA. Presumably, the “Destiny 2” launch will occur at the same time across America.
This means: According to all available information, you can play Destiny 2 in Germany on September 6 from 00:01 our time. Update: This date has now been officially confirmed!
This is the official release time. It is not known if there will be ways to play Destiny 2 earlier.
Preload of Destiny 2 on PS4 starts today
By the way: If you have preordered Destiny 2 for PS4, the preload is supposed to start today, on August 31. This gives you nearly a week to download the required game data. In the USA, the preload is already available, reports reddit. Download size 32GB / 38GB.
However, you will need to download a Day-1 patch shortly before the launch:
