In the world of gaming rarities and collectibles, there are always amazing stories that make players’ hearts race. One such story recently took place at Destiny 2, when an old Collector’s Edition finally found its way to its rightful owner after 4 years.
What is this forgotten gift? The parents of a young Destiny 2 fan decided in 2019, when the DLC “Shadowkeep” was just released, to gift their son the highly sought-after Collector’s Edition.
- This Collector’s Edition was available for pre-order in 2019 for the price of €159.99.
- In addition to the game, in-game bonuses, and lore, it also includes exclusive physical collectibles like a Hive Cryptoglyph and a metal Luna Mission container.
- The Cryptoglyph was a captivating puzzle for players back then, as to access its contents, one had to decipher it.
So, a true treasure for any passionate Destiny gamer.
However, the gift languished for 4 years in the depths of the family’s home. Forgotten and ignored until the course of events finally brought it back to light in 2023.
Why the gift was forgotten: On Reddit, the thread in which Spartan-Jake reveals the curious story and explains why it took so long has received nearly 4,000 upvotes.
My parents just discovered a gift they forgot to give me almost 4 years ago. […] Apparently, my mom bought it for Christmas, but the DLC came out before then, so I had already gotten it myself, although not the Collector’s Edition. She then set it aside and actually planned to return it.

How much the box is worth today: Four long years passed before the forgotten Collector’s Edition was rediscovered by chance. The mother apparently remembered the gift she had bought a long time ago.
She decided to hand it over to her son, unaware of the value the edition has since gained.
- The combination of the rarity of the collectible and the fact that it has remained untouched and in its original seal makes it extremely desirable for enthusiasts and collectors.
- Online, prices for such a box currently range between €250 and €600. Collectors are certainly willing to pay more than the original price for it.
- It is also not excluded that the unopened box could be worth significantly more in a few years.
Spartan-Jake himself, however, struggles with himself, as he actually wanted to unwrap his unexpected Collector’s box right away. Especially after watching some unboxing videos. He is especially taken with the Cryptoglyph and the emblems.

Reddit readers have also already cast an interested eye on the still-sealed Collector’s Edition. Jake has already received several direct inquiries asking if he would sell his old gift right away.
Others, like Patpuc, strongly advise him against it because these collector boxes for Destiny 2 always contain exclusive emblem codes that are already worth a lot on their own.
But even though the owner is itching to unpack the box itself, he has still decided not to do so. He made it clear: “I have no interest in selling it.” He will simply keep the box.
To his mother, however, he humorously remarked:
It actually brightened my week somehow. I wish my mom had also forgotten a few Pokémon card packs from my childhood.
