In Destiny 2 there are new challenges in the current raid “The Oryx’s Curse”. We explain to you what that is exactly and, above all, how to master the 3rd challenge “Defense Failure”.
What is a raid challenge? All raids in Destiny 2 are a demanding group activity and thus belong to the endgame. Players face tricky puzzles in raids, overcome jumping passages, to ultimately kill the toughest bosses, who drop prestigious weapons and armor.
For those who find that not enough, they can take on a so-called challenge in a raid. These challenges still include the classic raid mechanics but also restrict certain play styles, so that you often have to adjust your team tactics to master them.
All challenges typically occur in a specific raid encounter or a phase. In the raid “Oryx’s Curse” there are a total of four such encounters – the jumping passages are excluded.
How to succeed in the challenge “Defense Failure”
This is the third encounter: The raid challenge “Defense Failure” takes place in the third phase of the Witch Queen raid “The Oryx’s Curse” at the relics.
Previously, you had to pick up special bounties from Hawthorne for this, but that has changed. The challenge is active automatically when starting the raid. You will see the corresponding information at the bottom left when you start the raid.
To specifically complete the challenge “Defense Failure”, you may only kill one Taken Knight with your relic. If that fails, you will get the message “Challenge Failed”. To try again, you can simply let everyone die to restart the encounter.

Tips for the challenge
The challenge can be easily managed if you have already determined the “runners” and their order before starting the phase. So, coordinate when it’s your turn to kill a knight. For this, you need to swap the laser artifact in the various rooms once each to defeat the knights and master the challenge.
Players also report a total of seven knights that can spawn, but each member of the fireteam may only eliminate one knight. So, in this case, you need to leave one knight alive and proceed through the next rooms.
What is the reward? If you successfully master the challenge, there is bonus loot. Besides the standard chest at the end of the encounter, another chest will appear after a short time. This one also contains top-tier equipment. It’s worth taking on the effort.
Since each encounter offers you special loot, this means that for this challenge you can earn either the “Resonance Fury” chest piece or the boots, or you get the submachine gun “Subjugation” and the fusion rifle “Redemption”.
Do you like taking on such challenges for extra loot, or do you prefer a normal run? If you have already completed the challenge, we would be happy if you share your experiences in the comments and let us know how difficult you found this challenge.
