The Power Level Bottleneck at 260
Until you reach power level 260, you should not have any trouble acquiring suitable gear. From this point, however, it becomes significantly more difficult to level up. It may happen that you come across a legendary or exotic loot piece that is significantly above your current power level. If you inspect this item, you can marvel at a mod, which raises the power level by a whopping 5 points:
Items with such a modification should be particularly monitored and maintained! If you raise the base level of such gear through infusing, they will get an extra power boost from their mod that will help you level up!
These mods exist for both armor and weapons. And here it starts to get tricky:

Mods as Power Level Boost
An example that illustrates the complexity of the mods:
You have two helmets. Both are at power level 268. However, one of the helmets has a mod that increases the power level by 5, so the base value is “only” 263. If you now infuse the helmet without the mod (268) into the helmet with the mod (263), you will receive a helmet with a power level of 273 (268 base value + mod).
You infused two helmets that appeared to have the same power level at first glance and gained five power levels.
The mods will help you overcome the bottleneck at power levels 260-270. Therefore, always keep an eye out for this mod on your weapons and armor.
Once you reach power level 280, you can even craft these mods at Banshee-44, the gunsmith.
