In Destiny 2, “Telesto the Besto” has been suspended for the second time in Season 15. As Bungie announced via Twitter, the developer has locked the exotic fusion rifle because it could make players nearly immortal.
Time and again, the customizable combinations of various mods, buffs, and exotics in Destiny 2 create unique, and unfortunately also unintended, effects. This variety of possibilities makes Destiny 2 builds flexible, but also prone to bugs, especially when unintended synergies are created or powerful effects arise that give players an advantage.
Over the weekend, two new bugs were uncovered by the Destiny 2 community that prompted Bungie to temporarily disable both exotics.
The deactivated exotics are:
- Telesto, exotic fusion rifle
Unplanned mercy period. Fusion projectiles stick and detonate with a delayed Void explosion and Harbinger’s pulse: Multi-kills immediately reload your equipped kinetic and energy weapons from reserves. - Raijus Harness – Exotic Hunter chest armor for the Arcstrider
Moebius Conduit. Early deactivate Whirlwind Guard. No additional super energy is consumed when deflecting.
The bugs generated by both exotics would have provided too great an advantage for the ongoing Trials of Osiris to leave them in the game. Therefore, Telesto has been disabled in all PvP and Gambit activities, and Raijus Harness has been disabled in all activities until further notice.
The following video especially highlights the problem with Telesto:
Telesto made players nearly immortal: The video shows how projectiles from Telesto are shot onto a player’s body. They stick there and almost completely envelop the Guardian. Subsequently, they come under fire.
At least body shots are completely “absorbed” by this “Telesto shield”. Even though the head is not protected, and enemy shots can still land there, the player takes hardly any damage, making them much harder to defeat. Even a Vex Mythoclast can’t do much.
What does Bungie say about it?: Bungie likely already has a big red emergency button for such specific “Telesto emergencies”. The community manager wrote on Twitter after the bug was discovered:
What is the scariest thing in Destiny? I’ll start: TELESTO!

Telesto is always good for a glitch
While Bungie is working on a solution, players have already commented on the new Telesto bug through social media. “Every season needs its Telesto glitch – or even two or three…” The official Destiny 2 account posts a photo with an update of the Safety-First display board in the Tower hangar.

But could it go much further?: As Drexis Animation wrote in September 2021, during Telesto’s first bug in Season 15 on Twitter: Telesto will probably be the only thing that remains in the end.
It goes by many names. The Entity. The Winnower. It is the final form. The end of all things. When all other bugs are fixed, only Telesto remains. It is unstoppable. Inevitable. Paracausal. Savathun herself fears its power.

Time and again, the community finds new ways to break the game with the weapon Telesto. In Season 15, Telesto has done this for the second time, further solidifying its position as the best game-breaking queen of Destiny 2.
Telesto is allowed to do that: But the community also agrees. If one weapon is allowed to do that in Destiny 2, it is Telesto. For players, the exotic fusion rifle Telesto is the undisputed queen of game-breaking. No other weapon has required Bungie to make so many adjustments and fix so many bugs.
The Destiny 2 community feels a bit sorry for Bungie. Perhaps it would make sense to completely remove such a broken exotic like Telesto from the game. But so far, Bungie has repeatedly repaired the bugs with Telesto. After all, Telesto is a very unique weapon because it does not fire normal projectiles.
How diversely Telesto has already disrupted the game mechanics of Destiny 2:
- Its fusion projectiles are registered as enemies
- With Telesto, it was possible to get infinite ammunition
- The Exotic bypassed complete raid mechanics
- In the Blind Well, it was possible to almost skip the entire activity with Telesto
- It gave Guardians maximum buffs when shooting at the projectiles
- A seasonal mod from Season 15 allowed infinite power spheres to be generated
This Hunter exotic was also disabled
Together with the exotic fusion rifle Telesto, it also affected the Hunter chest armor “Raijus Harness” from Season 10. It is also disabled until further notice because it allowed players to use infinite super energy. All that was needed was to activate the “Whirlwind Guard” just before the Arcstrider super would expire. Once activated, it could then be executed infinitely, even after the super had ended.

When will the two exotics be available again?: Currently, there is no known date for when Bungie will re-enable the two exotics. As soon as we know something, we will inform you.
Let us know what you think Telesto will break next. Maybe Telesto bubbles will soon drop exotic engrams? Or when you shoot the Telesto bubbles, you can improve your K/D. Who knows. But one thing is certain, this definitely wasn’t the last time Telesto defended its status as a gamebreaker. Or do you also think Telesto should be completely disabled?
