Just yesterday, we reported that the voice actress of Ikora Rey thanked the community for the wonderful years with Destiny 2, and now your Guardian has made a personal appearance.
Peter Jessop, the voice behind the male Guardian, whom many should also know from Destiny 1, appeared on camera and shared many touching words about the journey through Destiny with the community.

Good morning Guardians, and welcome to our probably last live ticker for Destiny 2. Who would have thought that our loot shooter would eventually meet its end… But here we are now. So let’s not fall into sadness and celebrate this evening properly with other guardians. I can’t wait to dive into the gigantic amount of content – it’s about time we finally get an SRL after all these years, right?
What happened to Destiny 2? After nearly 12 years, Bungie is discontinuing the development of its loot shooter. Destiny 2 is set to enter maintenance mode after today’s release of the major update “Moments of Triumph”.
No major DLCs or seasons are planned for the future. A Destiny 3 also seems unlikely at this point. For many, this marks the end of an era, as the loot shooter provided unmatched gunplay and a deep story that could captivate players.
Whether the story of the Guardians will continue someday is unclear, but for many, that matters less today. The Guardians are making plans for this evening to celebrate the shooter and search for the best loot one last time with their fireteam. When does Update 9.7.0 start? This is a major update. Here are the times you should keep an eye on (Source: Bungie Status):
- Downtime period: 14:00 – 20:00
- Downtime starts: 14:30
- Downtime duration: 4 hours and 30 minutes
- Preload starts: 18:00
- Downtime ends: 19:00
How large is the update? The “Moments of Triumph” update will be large, and this can also be seen in the download size. You can expect the following data quantities:
- PS5: 27.54 GB
- PS4: 26.71 GB
- Xbox Series X/S: 39.29 GB
- Xbox One: 36.70 GB
- Steam: 28.40 GB
- Epic Games Store: 27.18 GB
- Microsoft Store: 35.80 GB
What content does “Moments of Triumph” deliver? The upcoming update offers a massive amount of content that will be free for every player. Here’s what you can look forward to:
- Return of the SRL: The popular Sparrow Racing League from Destiny 1 is back.
- Pantheon becomes permanent: The boss rush mode returns permanently, including bosses from old raids that were in the content vault.
- No more artificial loot scarcity: No more weekly loot locks. Loot pools for PvE and PvP have been completely revamped, and old favorite weapons are making a return.
- New catalysts: 25 new exotic catalysts are being added.
- Overhaul of vendors & currencies: Shiny engrams can be focused (no duplicates). Chronologs will come in as a new fixed currency.
- The last season pass: A final, endless season pass without an expiration date with plenty of cosmetic rewards is set to be added – with a free track.
- Sandbox & ability adjustments: New aspects will be included for all classes, including grenades for Strand and Stasis.
- Ability nerfs: The passive and active cooldown of abilities and supers have been noticeably increased to refocus on gunplay.
- Distortions make patrols exciting again: Various locations will receive the “Distorted” modifier hourly, changing the map and its enemies and increasing the loot.
- Adjustments for Strikes & Gambit: Strikes will deliver more scrap and will not have revival tokens anymore. Additionally, Gambit will get a button on the star map for quick access to the activity – the Hive, bring a sword!
