With the update 2.0.0 for Destiny 2, the IKELOS power weapons will be switched to solar damage. No other element will be possible with these weapons. Bungie has now explained why.

Two strong weapons will soon be slightly reduced due to changes in the weapon and mod system of Destiny 2. Bungie does not allow free choice of elemental damage. The studio has now explained why.
Bungie wants to reduce tractor cannon stacking
IKELOS power weapons only with solar damage: The IKELOS_SF_v1.0.1 shotgun and the IKELOS_SSG_v1.0.1 sniper rifle will be somewhat nerfed on August 28 with patch 2.0.0, the preload for Forsaken.

Although there is no real nerf for the two IKELOS power weapons, their effectiveness and flexibility will be reduced. For both weapons, the elemental damage will be set to solar – regardless of the currently active element. Starting August 28, no other damage types will be possible.
Many players wondered: Why? Bungie provided an official answer via Twitter. By restricting these two powerful weapons to solar damage, the so-called tractor cannon stacking is supposed to be reduced. The change is therefore made by Bungie for balance reasons.
What is tractor cannon stacking? It is a method that Guardians use to melt bosses of different activities in seconds.
Since its overhaul, the tractor cannon can not only deal good damage at close range and suppress abilities – it also increases outgoing damage from all Void sources for a period of 10 seconds.
The IKELOS power weapons were very popular as Void variants in combination with the tractor cannon – especially the shotgun with its own additional damage buff after a melee hit.

This combo forced numerous bosses to their knees in seconds and pushed many other weapon options into the background. The damage output was greatly increased by stacking buff effects and the simultaneous Void orientation of the weapons.
Too early to rejoice: Many Guardians had been looking forward to the combination of tractor cannon and especially the IKELOS shotgun even more than before. After all, starting on August 28, both the sniper and the shotgun will no longer be in the power slot and can therefore also be equipped alongside the tractor cannon. However, Bungie has now refuted this option by entirely removing the possibility of Void damage for these weapons.
By the way: In addition to this cut, the IKELOS sniper will also undergo a real nerf. Because its distinctive perk Control Breath will apparently be weakened and will work differently than before from Forsaken.
What do you think about this decision by Bungie? Do you consider this essentially a nerf? Or is it a comprehensible and necessary change that you can live with?
