The Dawning event in Destiny 2 introduced all kinds of new cosmetic items – and a sword. How to obtain Zephyr is shown here.
Days before the start of The Dawning, the winter event in Destiny 2, a new weapon was revealed. Game Director Christopher Barrett tweeted this image of a stylish sword along with the hashtag #thedawning:
In the comments, he shared that every Guardian can get this sword. It is tied to quests, not microtransactions.
Meanwhile, the first Guardians have obtained this weapon.
How to Obtain the Dawning Sword
The sword in Dawning look is named Zephyr and is the only Dawning weapon currently known. Otherwise, you can earn new armor pieces and plenty of cosmetics during the winter event.
There are two things needed to get the sword:
- You need to master the daily gifts, the “Today’s Gift” quests
- and you need a bit of luck.
Because the sword is a random drop from the gifts you receive as thanks for your gift from the NPCs. So, meet the conditions to create a gift, hand the gift to the corresponding vendor, and with a bit of luck, you will receive the sword.
This is the loot pool of the items you can receive in the NPC’s gift (the sword is the item at the top): For the “Today’s Gift” quest, you must go to Ikora Rey. Many gifts are lying next to her. There you pick up the quest. Then you have to gather resources in the various worlds, from which you will craft a gift. This gift is either for Asher, Banshee, Cayde, Devrim, Failsafe, Hawthorne, Holliday, Ikora, Rahool, Shaxx, Sloane, or Zavala. The NPC will then give you a gift in return, which may contain the sword.
Important: This quest can be completed once daily per character. You need access to the Tower.
It seems to be irrelevant from which character you receive the gift for the drop chance for the sword. Quite a few Guardians report that they received it from Sloane. However, other names are also mentioned on reddit.
The chance of getting Zephyr from the gift seems quite high. Several players write that they obtained it right from the first or second gift. Also, Masterwork versions are possible.
What Can Zephyr Actually Do?
The Zephyr sword is exclusively tied to this gift quest. It belongs to the archetype with adaptive frame, allowing you to perform uppercuts.
- The fixed perk ensures that rapid sword strikes in succession increase damage output.
- You can either increase the damage at the cost of sword ammo or increase sword ammo at the cost of damage.
- Additionally, defense and efficiency can be adjusted.
