Owners of the Annual Pass now have the opportunity to start the first exotic quest of the “Black Armory” DLC in Destiny 2. For this, you need the Mysterious Box, a mysterious chest. We explain to you where to find the chest and what the quest entails.
The new premium DLC is full of secrets. One of them is a mysterious chest that resourceful Guardians have recently discovered. In return, players are rewarded with the first exotic quest of the Black Armory.
How to find the mysterious chest
The chest was initially discovered during the first quest from the Black Armory. However, you do not need to be on this quest line to collect the Mysterious Box. You can get the chest at any time.
Here’s how to find the mysterious chest: To get to the chest, you need to go to the Völundr Forge in the EDZ on Earth. Fly to the “Sunken Isles” area in the EDZ. Once you spawn there, turn left and follow the rock wall until you reach the tunnel entrance.
Enter the tunnel and follow its path until you reach the first large room. There you need to continue through the hallway on the right side of the room.
This will lead you directly to the forge – even without the corresponding quest.
Continue to follow the tunnel until you arrive at an open cave. Then walk left along the rock wall until you see some crates and equipment ahead of you.
Once you reach the crates, look down the slope. There you will find a small ledge. Jump down there.
In front of you is a small, dark cave. Go inside. There you will find a chest from the Black Armory.
Open the chest and you will receive the exotic mysterious box.
You will find this in your inventory under quests from now on.
The first exotic quest of the Black Armory
What is the mysterious chest? The mysterious chest represents the first step of a new quest. What will be given as a reward is not yet known. However, since it is an exotic quest, the reward at the end will also be exotic. Some fans suspect the new exotic fusion rifle Jötunn as a prize.
What is the quest about? The quest requires the Guardians to unlock the four locks of the chest. There are:
- The Hook lock
- The Butterfly lock
- The Hand lock
- The “Black Armory” lock
Further hints are provided neither by the chest itself nor by its description.
How does the first step of the exotic quest go? Meanwhile, clever Guardians have figured out how to open the first lock. You unlock the Hook lock by shutting down two shield drones during the new “Forging the Chain” activity in the Völundr Forge.
So head into the Völundr Forge and complete the first round. The two blue drones will appear in the first 10 seconds of the second round/wave of the fight. One of them appears near the trees outside the cave.
For the other, you just need to turn around 180 degrees and look into the cave. There, the small blue drone is hard to miss.
When you take them out, you will receive the message Maximum Hardness on the left edge of the screen. This indicates that you have destroyed both drones. Now you must survive the match successfully. If you die, you will have to take out the drones again.
Once you send the boss to the virtual afterlife, a chest from the Black Armory will appear in the middle of the room near the forge apparatus. Open it and you will receive a “Black Armory” key. Activate the key in your inventory. This will unlock the Hook lock of the mysterious chest.
What happens next with the quest? This is currently not known. However, fans speculate that each of the four lost forges will yield a key.
For three forges have the Hook (now at Völundr), the Butterfly, and the Hand as symbols. The fourth forge, the Niobe Labs, will probably then provide the “Black Armory” key.
