In Destiny 2 the Haunted Earth is offered by the Dead Orbit. Is it worth the 50,000 Glimmer that is being asked?
The Dead Orbit is the winner of the first Faction Rally in Destiny 2. To celebrate, Arach Jalaal is now selling a Legendary Scout Rifle called “Haunted Earth.”
All Guardians who belong to the winning faction receive the Scout Rifle for 1,000 Glimmer. All others must pay a proud 50,000 Glimmer if they want the Haunted Earth.
You have until the next weekly reset on 10/10 to strike – after that, the Dead Orbit will not distribute this weapon (for now?).
But is it really worth spending 50,000 Glimmer?
This is what the Haunted Earth can do – Perks
The Scout Rifle deals Kinetic damage, has a rate of fire of 150, and a magazine size of 13.
These are the perks:
- Intrinsic – Piercing Case: Slow fire and high damage, becomes more precise when not moving and when using the sights.
- Prepared for Everything: Increased ammunition reserves. Fast reloading when crouching.
Sight choice between:
- OV 5 Circle: Circular, open sight with short zoom. Increases weapon readiness speed.
- Model 6 Cycle: Red dot with medium zoom. Increases range and weapon readiness speed.
Choice between:
- Tactical Magazine: Increases stability, reload speed, magazine size.
- High-Caliber Rounds: Shots push targets back further, increased range
In terms of design, the Haunted Earth is almost identical to the “Duty Call” Scout Rifle, which is available from Devrim Kay in reward packages except for its coloring:
Compared to the Duty Call, the Haunted Earth has a slower fire rate and therefore increased stopping power. However, the magazine size, stability, and handling are better with the Duty Call.
The “Prepared for Everything” perk provides a tangible bonus: You reload almost twice as fast when crouched compared to when you are standing. However, this perk is impractical in many situations as you hardly have the time to crouch to reload in the heat of battle.
The “Triple” perk from the Duty Call is more useful, as it refills a shot in the magazine with quick precision hits. Especially in boss fights, it is a top perk. So, better pack the Duty Call than the Haunted Earth in the kinetic slot.
You can acquire the Scout Rifle “Midnight Without Name” from Zavala, which is currently one of the strongest legendary scout rifles. This one features the Explosive Rounds perk, causing the projectiles to explode upon impact. This is also more useful than the abilities of the Haunted Earth.
Overall, the Haunted Earth is an at best average Scout Rifle that cannot compare to alternatives like Midnight Without Name or Duty Call.
So is it worth spending 50,000 Glimmer? The answer is: No. There are better legendary scout rifles. Only buy it if you want the Haunted Earth for your weapon collection. Otherwise, the 50,000 Glimmer can be spent better elsewhere.
