On October 8, the new episode “Revenants” will start. With the new episode, Destiny 2 will get a new dungeon. However, it comes with a special feature that sets it apart from all other dungeons.
What is so special? The new dungeon of Destiny 2 will start on October 11 with a contest mode. This is a significant novelty for the loot shooter, as normally the contest mode is only available at the launch of a new raid.
For the first time in the history of Destiny, there will be a contest mode for a new dungeon.
What is a contest mode? This is a mode that is supposed to provide players with a special challenge at the launch of a new raid – or in the future at the release of a new dungeon.
In contest mode, players are downgraded in light level, and overpowered exotics are disabled. Additionally, the enemies are noticeably deadlier and tougher than outside the contest mode.
Whoever finishes a content in contest mode first is considered the winner of the “World first” race and has been rewarded in the past with a championship belt and a special emblem. Whether there will be a “World first” race with corresponding rewards for the dungeon is not yet known.
With the new dungeon, players can also look forward to the return of an iconic weapon from Destiny 1: the exotic sniper “Icebreaker”. The sniper rifle should be obtainable through the new dungeon.
The Icebreaker makes enemies explode upon a kill, causing area damage. Additionally, the rifle can regenerate ammunition on its own. This led to players being able to complete raids even solo: Destiny 2 brings back one of its most famous weapons, with which heroes once defeated the greatest monsters alone
