In Destiny 2, there are plenty of cool emotes that let your Guardian perform various gestures or dances at the push of a button. But where does Bungie actually get the inspiration for these? What are the templates for the emotes?
This question has now been explored by YouTuber sniP. In two videos, he has examined numerous dance emotes from Destiny 2 and compared them to their originals.
What do the videos show? It is surprising to see which templates the creators of Destiny 2 sometimes use. From dancers to musicians to famous movie scenes, a lot is represented. Many templates would have gone unnoticed without the video.
These are some of the real-life inspirations behind the gestures of Destiny 2:
- The notorious gesture Bureaucratic Tango, which lets the Guardians walk through walls, heavily drew from Monty Python’s sketch “The Ministry of Silly Walks”
- The Shuffle dance originated from the music video “Party Rock Anthem” by the musical duo LMFAO
- The Jester dance makes your Guardian dance in the style of the horror clown Pennywise from the movie “IT” (2017)
- For the group dance emote, Bungie directly drew from the hit “Lean On” by Major Lazer
- Even superstar Beyoncé has been immortalized in Destiny 2 with her song “Single Ladies” in the form of the Bling dance

Many other stars have also served as inspiration for the emotes, such as:
- Lady Gaga
- Britney Spears
- Justin Timberlake
- John Travolta
- Madonna
- Missy Elliot
- Village People
Several famous movies also served as templates, including:
- High School Musical
- Deadpool
- Rocky Horror Picture Show (theatrical version of the musical)

By the way: These are the English voice actors behind the main characters in Destiny 2.
Would you have recognized all the real-life inspirations without the videos? Which emotes do you find particularly well done in Destiny 2?
