Note: Once you have over 270 power, blue and legendary items can also drop with higher power levels.
How to get tokens: Public heroic events
The fastest way to get tokens (the currency for leveling factions) is by completing heroic public events. These usually grant you two blue engrams, one token, and some glimmer.
The best place to participate in the events is Titan, as the area is small with numerous enemy spawns. While waiting for events, you can collect loot chests and finish patrol missions.
Additionally, only two public events can take place on Titan – the Fallen Walker and the Witch ritual. Both events make it very easy to trigger the heroic mode.
To increase your yield, you should use a fireteam medallion, as this grants better loot quality and more experience for you and your fireteam. You can obtain a medallion from Tess Everis in the Eververse after completing the campaign. You can buy more for 50 glimmer. Whenever you receive a glimmer engram, you can dismantle the loot to gain glimmer.
You can even find exotic engrams in public events, which always provide a boost to your current power level.
The next step: Weekly activities and exotic quests
Once you reach a point where you can no longer progress conventionally (around 265-270), there are these four weekly activities:
- The Flashpoint milestone
- The Nightfall strike
- The Crucible milestone
- The weekly clan milestone
The power level of these activities is based on your current gear and will drop above that. Anyone who does these activities before the power level threshold of 265, “wastes” valuable points – as these rewards are only given weekly.
If you turn in the mentioned events only at power level 265, you will most likely reach 270-275, which is a good base for the raid start.
Even if you don’t like playing with others – join a clan. The Destiny community is passionate and helpful – the rewards are also noticeable! There are plenty of ways to find clans. Various forums and groups are available on Bungie.net, Facebook, or Reddit, to name just a few.
Also play the Crucible milestone! You can do quick matches and have fun. It doesn’t matter if you win or lose (for the quest, not for the ego).
The exotic quests
After completing the campaign, you can find three exotic weapons that are all above your current level and provide a nice boost:
- On Earth, you can get the MIDA Multi-Tool
- On Titan, there is a quest for the Rat King and
- on Nessus, you can get Sturm and Drang

Mods can be integrated into equipment and provide various bonuses. Among other things, there are legendary mods that can increase the power level of weapons and armor by 5 points.
