The season of opulence of Destiny 2 has so far been marked by nerfs. However, Bungie has also introduced some buffs and further adjustments that they intend to make for Season 7.
What we know so far about the sandbox adjustments in Season 7: In Season 7, there will be a lot of nerfs. Many legendary and exotic weapons and gear will be weakened – much to the dismay of many fans.
- For example, the popular hand cannons Luna’s Howl and Not Forgotten will be nerfed.
- Some top weapon exotics, such as the Whisper of the Worm or Lord of Wolves, along with popular exotic armor pieces like Orpheus Rig or the Skull of Dire Ahamkara, will also be affected.
Many guardians found this too much – especially since no buffs were mentioned at all with the announcement of the nerfs. This affected the mood among the fans. Season 7 has even been called the season of the nerf or “Go Slow” update by some.
Here’s how Bungie is trying to smooth things over: The studio had already announced that they do not only plan to swing the nerf hammer. More information should follow. Now, in the current “This Week at Bungie” blog, they have provided an initial look at buffs and further adjustments for Season 7.
What’s changing with fusion rifles, swords, and Sturm und Drang
Specifically, they have focused the preview on changes to two weapon classes that many guardians believe have been neglected, as well as a specific weapon pair.

The fusion rifles: For non-exotic fusion rifles, PvE damage has been significantly increased – contrary to popular jokes, not just by 0.004%. Starting in Season 7
- the high-impact archetype will deal 30% more damage
- the precision archetype will deal 44% more damage
- the adaptive archetype will deal 44% more damage
- and the rapid-fire archetype will deal 47% more damage
against AI enemies.
Exotic fusion rifles like Telesto, Jötunn, or Merciless have also been strengthened in this area, but only minimally (less than 5%). They wanted to bring legendary fusion rifles closer to their exotic counterparts, as the gap in PvE was simply too large in Bungie’s view.
The swords: The ammunition capacity and the amount of ammunition you start with have been buffed. Additionally, the damage of certain attacks of specific archetypes has been increased. However, there were further adjustments. Here’s what changes in detail:
- The maximum ammunition capacity for swords will be 70 starting in Season 7
- The starting ammunition has been increased by 10
- Black Talon (exotic)
- Projectiles on the ground and in the air now cost 4 instead of 3 ammunition
- Swords with adaptive frame
- Ground uppercut now costs 4 instead of 3 ammunition
- Swords with aggressive frame
- Light attacks in the air will now lunge towards the target
- Light attack has now been consolidated into a single damage phase
- Heavy attack has now been consolidated into a single damage phase
- Heavy attack now costs 4 instead of 3 ammunition
- Swords with lightweight frame
- The damage of this archetype has been tuned
- Damage of light attack on the ground increased by 17%
- Damage of light attack in the air reduced by 21%
- Damage of heavy attack on the ground increased by 87%
- Damage of heavy attack in the air increased by 78%
- Damage of light attack in the air without ammunition reduced by 49%
- Damage of all other attacks without ammunition reduced by 15%
- Damage of heavy attack on the ground now costs 3 instead of 2 ammunition
- The damage of this archetype has been tuned
Sturm und Drang: Sturm und Drang is a weapon duo consisting of the exotic hand cannon Sturm and the legendary sidearm Drang. Both weapons are intended to synergize and benefit each other.
Unfortunately, this dynamic duo has completely faded into obscurity since the release of the Forsaken expansion, which Bungie wants to change in Season 7.
- The maximum capacity for bonus damage rounds generated by the perk “Sturm und Stress” of Sturm has been increased to 99. “Sturm und Stress” causes kills with Drang to reload Sturm and overflow a bonus damage round into the magazine (previously up to 20).
- When this buff is active, the number of bonus damage rounds will be displayed
- The bonus damage of these rounds has been increased by 100% in PvE
So in Season 7, not only popular weapon exotics are being nerfed, but certainly weaker exotics are also being buffed. By the way, swords and Drang are expected to receive a new look in Season 7.
Also interesting: Soon there should finally be information about what guardians can expect beyond Season 7. You can learn more about it here:
What do you think about these changes? What buffs would you particularly look forward to?
