If you want to play all the content of the Destiny 2 beta, you need the online services PlayStation Plus (PS Plus) or Xbox Live Gold.
In the last “This Week at Bungie,” Bungie stated that PS Plus and Xbox Live Gold are not prerequisites to participate in the Destiny 2 beta.
A few hours ago, a clarification came via Twitter: Yes, for some content of the beta, you need these paid online services.
Destiny 2 Beta – Only the story mission runs without PlayStation Plus / Xbox Live Gold
The “Destiny 2” beta consists of three activities: a story mission, a strike, and PvP.
- The story mission is called “Homecoming”: It can be tested by all players.
- The strike is a 3-player group activity and requires PS Plus or Xbox Live Gold.
- All Crucible modes, i.e., PvP activities, also require the online services.
In short: If you do not have PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold, you can only play the story mission in the beta.
An update for the “Destiny 2” beta
A month ago, the Game Director Luke Smith revealed that Bungie would not take a break and will continuously work on Destiny 2. Therefore, you should prepare for a Day-1 patch.
The beta also received an update before launch. Bungie announced last night that this update is now available for everyone and that you need to download and install it to start the beta.
It is likely that this refers to the update with version number 1.02. However, this has not been available since last night, but has been ready for download since the weekend. If you haven’t installed it yet, you still have time until today at 7 PM. Because then early access starts on PlayStation 4.
