The Collector’s Edition of Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate contains new lore, connecting it to the assassination of JFK.
What is this new lore? On July 15, 2025, Destiny 2 will receive a new expansion titled “The Edge of Fate,” introducing a new saga within the universe of the loot shooter. Leading up to the new expansion, Bungie released another Collector’s Edition, which includes a statue of the three Guardian classes. Additionally, the collector’s box contained a few notes that provide new lore (via Reddit).
The notes consist of secret writings from the “Department of External Observation” in Chicago. The documents discuss an investigation related to the assassination of former American President John F. Kennedy (JFK), who was shot by Lee Harvey Oswald during a parade at Dealey Plaza in Dallas on November 22, 1963.
Kennedy was considered one of the most charismatic and popular presidents in U.S. history. His death shocked the world.
Was Kennedy shot with a weapon from Destiny?
What does the new lore state? The new lore is very cryptic and raises several questions. Primarily, it establishes a strange new connection between the Destiny universe and the assassination of JFK. One of the writings states:
It is my personal assessment that at this time, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxx the required stability xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, without causing sufficient disturbance to be noted as part of the event. At the very least, we would xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx expect, remaining at a verifiable level for at least three years post-failure, but our measurements at Dealey Plaza show nothing unusual. […]
After extensive review of the materials recovered from the xxxxxxxxx incident, I can find no conclusive connection between the weapons and energy sources present at the incident and the evidence from the scene of President Kennedy’s assassination. xxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Thus, the Department of External Observation apparently investigated the assassination of the former president and another incident, comparing various recovered materials, analyzing measurements, and evidence.
Another writing reveals that an unusual discovery was made regarding Kennedy’s gunshot wound, suggesting the involvement of an exotic weapon from Destiny 2:
“As xxxxxxxxx testified, both the imaging and the physical examination of the brain displayed extensive tissue destruction. While this is expected in a gunshot wound, a closer examination by our department revealed subtle patterns in the destruction. xxxxxxxxxxx and xxxxxxx agree that the pattern indicates that tissue was drawn to the projectile as it traversed the skull before being pushed back out. This is unusual behavior.“
The description of the wound sounds as if the projectile created some sort of black hole. This would explain why tissue was drawn to it. Experienced Guardians might think of the Graviton Lance, an exotic pulse rifle that, according to lore, was found in Old Chicago and fires small black holes.
It remains unclear what role the new expansion or the Nine are supposed to play in the assassination of JFK.
Why is this so special? The assassination of John F. Kennedy gave rise to various conspiracy theories. Some people believe that the shooter, Lee Harvey Oswald, was not alone, while others think that the Mafia, the Soviet Union, or even the CIA were involved in the assassination.
Bungie thus addresses a highly debated topic and connects Destiny’s lore with real events and conspiracy theories. However, since the developers simultaneously release no concrete information and obscure parts of the documents, Destiny fans must now essentially create their own conspiracy theories.
