In the new expansion of Destiny 2, Shadowkeep, you can obtain 8 different legendary weapons from purified essence items using the Enchantment Table. We will explain how to do this and where to find the items for purification.
During the story of Shadowkeep, you will unlock the Enchantment Table. You need this table to purify the various essences you receive during and after completing the story quests.
The essences serve as bounties and have their own tasks that you need to complete. As a reward, there are different legendary weapons and armor.
This is how you get Illusory Fragments and new weapons
This is how the table works: The purified essences you obtain from the bounties can be transformed into corresponding weapons at the table. They have random stats and perks.
You can buy back the essences from the table repeatedly: The weapons will have new random stats and perks. To purchase the essences, you need Illusory Cores.
The cores can also be purchased from the table by exchanging them for Illusory Fragments. You obtain the fragments as follows:
- By receiving them randomly from enemies
- By completing bounties on the Moon
- By completing the weekly bounties from the table
You can keep doing these quests and try to get a God Roll.
This is how you purify the essences: The requirements for purification vary from essence to essence. You will often need to complete Public Events or Lost Sectors for them.
You will also need various items that can sometimes be quite hard to find. In this guide, we have listed the locations for you.
The sought items “disguise” themselves as “weapon parts” and only after picking them up will you realize that they are necessary items.
Destiny 2: Essence of Failure – Captive’s Cord
For the Essence of Failure, you need the Captive’s Cord, which is lying somewhere in the Moon battlefields. It’s best to start at the Port of Sorrow and keep to the right. From here, you can reach the battlefields the fastest.
Once there, cross the red bridge and follow the path up to the right between two rocks to the abandoned buildings. This is the area where the first mission of Shadowkeep begins. You will find your target on the roof there.
For the next steps in the quest, you must:
- Complete patrols, Lost Sectors, or Public Events on the Moon
- And kill 50 enemies with an auto rifle
This is the reward: The Essence of Failure will be transformed into the legendary auto rifle Arc Logic after purification.
Destiny 2: Essence of Greed – Etheric Talismans
To purify the Essence of Greed, you must head to the Temple of Crota. It’s best to start in the area Anchor of Light and go through the narrow gorge to the temple from there.
Fight through the enemies (or ignore them) and follow the path inside, and you will arrive in the room below in the picture:
In a corner in front of closed gates lie the talismans. For further quest steps, you need to:
- Complete patrols, Lost Sectors, or Public Events on the Moon
- And kill 25 enemies with machine guns.
This is the reward: The Essence of Greed can be transformed into the legendary machine gun “Ein Edles Andenken” after purification.
Destiny 2: Essence of Vanity – Horn Crown
The quest for the Essence of Vanity requires you to find the item “Horn Crown” from Ehrath’Ur. Head again from the Anchor of Light to the Temple of Crota. This item is located much deeper inside this time.
Once you arrive in the room where the talismans were (see picture above), go right and take the exit there. It will lead you past an abyss into the area World Grave.
Cross this room and keep left. In the next room on the left side on the upper platform is another passage. It will lead you into a round room with a kind of altar in the middle.
Also go straight here and you will come to a pitch-black corridor. Keep right at the intersection and follow the corridor into the Chamber of Night.
Follow the path straight through several other rooms and you will arrive in the room with large bone remains at the bottom of the picture. The crown lies in the back corner.
The other quest steps require you to:
- Complete patrols, Lost Sectors, or Public Events
- Land 25 kills with a sniper rifle
This is the reward: The Essence of Vanity will be transformed after purification into the Sniper Rifle Rest.
Destiny 2: Essence of Brutality – Necromancer’s Strand
You need this strand to purify the Essence of Brutality. Start on the Moon in the area Shooter’s Line and take the way that leads to the entrance to the Hall of Wisdom.
Follow the path that goes steeply downwards and then straight into the hall. There at the end behind the orange “chandelier” you will find the Necromancer’s Strand on the ground.
To complete the quest for the essence, you must also complete the following two steps:
- Complete patrols, Lost Sectors, or Public Events on the Moon
- Land 50 kills with hand cannons
This is the reward: The Essence of Brutality can be transformed after purification into the legendary hand cannon Lullaby.
Destiny 2: Essence of Madness – Shackles of Binding
For the Essence of Madness, you need the item Shackles of Binding. Start at the Port of Sorrow and fly with your Sparrow to the Hellmouth. Keep to the right and take the path to the Gatehouse.
Take the right exit from the room in the picture above, and follow the hallway. Eventually, you will encounter the boss Erath’Ur’s Eternal Blade. Take him down, and you will get the shackles.
The second step of the essence quest is to achieve kills with a grenade launcher in Strikes, Gambit, or the Crucible.
This is the reward: The purified essence can be transformed into the legendary grenade launcher Love and Death.
Destiny 2: Essence of Wrath – Teeth of Shun’Gath
The Essence of Wrath needs as an item the Teeth of Shun’Gath to be purified. Start from the landing zone in the Sanctuary on the Moon and take the left path towards the Shooter’s Line. Go through the building on the right side in the bottom picture:
Follow the path into the interior of the Moon to the Halls of Wisdom. Cross them to the place with the orange chandelier, as in the quest for the Essence of Brutality, but go deeper into the Bone Circle.
Go past the abyss that should be on your left and continue along the path, and you will end up in the World Grave. Take the exit in the picture. In that room, you will find the teeth.
The second task of the essence quest is to defeat enemies on the Moon with your abilities, such as grenades and supers.
This is the reward: The essence can be transformed after purification into the shotgun Small Step.
Destiny 2: Essence of Obscurity – Weathered Feathers
The feathers are needed to purify the Essence of Obscurity. Start again at the Port of Sorrow. From the landing point, take the right path until you reach the Hellmouth. Keep going right and enter the tunnels.
Follow the path down into the Gatehouse and keep to the right. In the next room, take the door on the right side and continue along the path.
You will arrive in the room shown in the picture above. Cross it and take the door at the other end. It will lead you into a dark corridor. Follow the path, and you will come to the Bone Circle.
When you arrive there at the abyss, take the path to the right and run along the edge all the time. You will arrive in a dead end where you will find the feathers.
The second task of the essence quest is to:
- Kill enemies with submachine guns
- And complete patrols, Lost Sectors, or Public Events on the Moon.
This is the reward: Once the essence has been purified, it can be transformed at the table into the submachine gun In Every Wakeful Moment.
Destiny 2: Essence of Jealousy – Ralnik’s Axe
For the Essence of Jealousy, you need Ralnik’s Axe. Land in the Sanctuary and take the right path this time. You will arrive in the area Anchor of Light. Keep to the right, fly to the crashed Fallen ship, and go inside.
You will arrive in the Traitor’s Ketch. Follow the hallway. At the end of it, the boss Traitor Ralniks will await you. Defeat him and the axe is yours.
Otherwise, for this quest you must on the Moon:
- Defeat enemies with swords
- And complete patrols, Lost Sectors, or Public Events on the Moon
This is the reward: Once the essence has been purified, you can exchange it for the legendary sword Night Terror.
