What many guardians don’t even know: Raid challenges didn’t always exist in Destiny. The entire Year 1 came without challenges. It was only in December 2015 that the first challenges were introduced in the King’s Fall raid.
In Year 3, Wrath of the Machine replaced the King’s Fall raid. The new raid also had challenges for the guardians, which went live a few months after release. With the Age of Triumph at the beginning of 2017, all raids, including those from Year 1, were given raid challenges.
Raid challenges offer two important advantages, which is why we want to see them return in Destiny 2:
They grant strong loot. Those willing to defeat the bosses in a more difficult manner will be rewarded with extra items.
They require a shift in thinking. For each raid boss, a perfect strategy becomes clear quite quickly that all guardians soon use. Week after week, the boss is defeated this way. However, raid challenges call for: “Stop! Defeat the boss in a different way!” And new strategies must come into play.
For Destiny 2, we hope for a return of raid challenges. But not just that: Why should each boss only have one challenge? New challenges could go live every few weeks to keep the raid fresh and interesting for months.
But how do you see it? What expectations do you have for the raid in Destiny 2? Or do you think, “I expect nothing, so I won’t be disappointed?”
