The most striking features of WildStar are probably the crazy, insane world presented in a comic style and its bold innovations in the combat system. Unlike most representatives of the MMO genre, not only attributes determine the strength of the character, but also the player itself, as almost every ability must be manually targeted to trigger an effect – this also applies to healers.
At the center is the planet “Nexus,” which is to be conquered by two warring factions. Players can either take on the role of a member of the Dominion, an intergalactic mega-empire, or embody a follower of the Exiles, the remnants of the peoples who have already fallen victim to the Dominion.
Wide Selection, Large Game World
In total, there are seven species and six classes to choose from, each differing greatly in play style and presenting both newcomers and experienced MMO veterans with some fun challenges. Whether Esper, Assassin, or Warrior, each class can be played in seemingly endless ways, and every player can create their own unique set of abilities to take into battle.
Although the quest design is very classic, WildStar impresses with an open, very large game world where you can experience something around every corner, and almost everywhere you can discover one secret or another that may have escaped other players.
You are never forced to complete a specific area; you can simply march into the wilderness “willy-nilly” and face the challenges – if that level of freedom is too much for you, you can also stick to the intended order of quests that will guide you carefully through all areas.
Finally Feels Like Home
Also noteworthy is the extensive housing system, which is unique in this scope and will likely not find its equal for a long time. Every player can design their house – complete with a large garden – completely freely and can choose from a virtually endless array of items that can change in size and arrangement or even be combined. Designing your own four walls not only offers aesthetic advantages, but the character also benefits in many ways from a nice home.
WildStar is based on a subscription model, but also offers ambitious players the opportunity to earn their playtime with gold, so that no further fees may apply after the purchase.
Those who enjoy the comic look, appreciate unique humor, and vibrant characters, and still want to experience a well-thought-out, complex world that stands out significantly from all other games on the market, will find what they are looking for in WildStar.
