- The anime tops itself. Until now, Demon Slayer: Mugen Train held the number 1 spot among the best anime films. It grossed about 413 million euros.
- Your Name is a well-known anime, which many praise for its outstanding plot twist. It grossed 344 million euros.
- Even the Ghibli films, which many fans love for their magical style, have not earned that much.
According to Deadline, the success is mainly due to the international audience. In Japan, Infinity Castle has even grossed a bit less than Mugen Train. This shows how successful Demon Slayer has become worldwide. For the creators of the trilogy, it is a positive sign that it was the right decision to make a movie rather than a 5th season.
Fans criticize one thing about Demon Slayer that is typical of any anime
How is the film received? On IMDb, the film has a score of 8.6 out of 10 from around 33,000 ratings (as of September 22 at 11:00 AM). Fans celebrate, among other things, the magnificent animations, which weren’t present in the manga.
However, there is also a major point of criticism that bothers many fans. This weakness can be found in almost every anime from the Shounen genre.
What is the weakness? As an editor at Polygon writes, viewers are taken out of the action-packed fights, which are repeatedly interrupted by flashbacks, thoughts, or visions.
In Demon Slayer, the Hashira fight against the strongest demons, whose backstory has partly never been shown. This is now being addressed in the films.
On Reddit, there are also some fans who are bothered by the flashbacks and inner monologues. The film could not be classified as an action film if there are so many interruptions. According to them, the proportion of quiet scenes should be higher than the fights shown.
