The Pillars, also known as Hashira, are the strongest swordsmen in the Anime Demon Slayer. In a ranking, we present all members from the anime and who has the best chances to put an end to the demon and arch-enemy Muzan.
Muzan is the highest-ranked devil or demon, who is considered the main antagonist in the anime of Demon Slayer. In the grand finale, which will be spread over three movies, protagonist Tanjiro must confront the powerful opponent.
But he is not alone: Together with his friends he also has the Pillars backing him. These are the most powerful demon slayers, each having their own breathing and thus fighting technique.
MeinMMO presents all the Pillars in a ranking and arranges them according to their combat strength. We only consider the Pillars that occupy the respective ranks at the beginning of Demon Slayer. Former Pillars are not included here. It does not matter whether these Pillars die within the anime or manga over time.
Don’t worry: We won’t reveal how the battles in the finale turn out in this ranking. You can read the article without being spoiled about the grand finale! This is only about the chances of coming out as the victor in the fight against Muzan.
All Pillars from Demon Slayer in Strength Ranking
Rank 9: Shinobu Kocho
- Title: The Insect Pillar
- Breathing Technique: Insect Breathing (derived from: Flower Breathing, Water Breathing)

Shinobu ranks at the bottom of the Pillars in terms of combat strength. She can’t even decapitate a demon’s head, which is actually a basic requirement for a Pillar. However, to live up to the rank of a Pillar, she has devised other skills.
She is an excellent poison maker. She uses her self-created poisons on her sword, which she uses to eliminate her enemies. Additionally, she has expertise in medicine and pharmacy, which compensates for her lack of combat capabilities.
Rank 8: Tengen Uzui
- Title: The Sound Pillar
- Breathing Technique: Sound Breathing (derived from: Thunder Breathing)

Tengen, like Shinobu, is not exactly a strong Pillar, but he compensates for this shortcoming with some tricks. As a shinobi, he is also the fastest of all the Pillars and has a high resistance to pain and various poisons.
Furthermore, through his breathing technique, he can analyze his opponents’ movements based on sounds and come up with better attack opportunities. To further compensate for his lack of combat strength, he uses small bombs to temporarily distract demons.
