Edric, the Justiciar of the Republic is a quite demanding boss in Act 1 of Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem. We explain in our guide how you can defeat him.
When do you encounter Edric? The final boss confronts you at the end of the first act of Wolcen. He is a really tough opponent.
What is the problem with Edric? The difficulty of this fight is unexpectedly high. Especially after Wolcen plays quite pleasantly beforehand. However, with the Act 1 final boss Edric, you need to rethink, or else frustration sets in quickly.
Currently, there are still some bugs with the final boss, especially when playing in co-op. These include crashes mid-fight or you fall off the platform and spawn in a way that you immediately fall again.
This is how you knock Edric down
A first small tip beforehand: If Edric, the boss from Act 1, gives you such big problems that you lose interest in the hack ‘n slash genre, then switch the difficulty to story mode. Edric still poses a challenge, but is much easier to defeat.
Boss enemy Edric has three phases, and each of them packs a punch. This means that once you complete phase 1, the boss is not defeated; the fight continues with rounds 2 and 3. You should prepare for this from the start.
Phase 1
It is useful to play a tank with as many hit points as possible. With 1,500 hit points, you will survive this first phase quite well. It is also important that your hero moves quickly. Therefore, make sure to focus on maximizing your movement speed bonuses when allocating skills.
- Act 1 final boss Edric charges an attack repeatedly. You will be alerted when it happens. When the time comes, dodge this attack.
- If Edric raises his shield to attack you from this cover with shots, then circle around him as quickly as possible to attack him from behind, or teleport behind him. It is important not to touch the shield. Otherwise, you will be knocked back.
- You also need to dodge the shield attack. It will be indicated to you by a red cone on the ground. Then Edric runs towards you, and you must quickly jump to the side.
- Edric has some helpers with him. Red areas on the ground indicate when they are executing their special attacks. Avoid them.
Phase 2
The Act 1 boss, Edric, gains some new attacks that you can cleverly dodge. That is why a high movement speed value is so important. Also, try not to get too close to Edric from the front. Because if he hits you with a strike, he will knock you out for a short time, which can have fatal consequences.
- Edric uses a shot attack indicated by a red funnel on the ground. First, he only fires in one direction. Later, in three back-to-back shots. Here, you need to focus on dodging the first attack.
After that, go to where Edric first shot. He will then turn away from that direction and shoot elsewhere. You will be safe there. - In addition, the boss uses a jump attack. If he winds up, it means that he is about to attack. So dodge right then.
- After the jump attack, watch out for the flying projectiles.
Phase 3
This is probably the most frustrating phase of the fight. If you have too few HP, the jump attack can eliminate you with just one hit. Again, the motto is: be quick and dodge rapidly.
- First, try to break through Edric’s armor, then he will become vulnerable for a few seconds. Save your skills for this moment to deal as much damage as possible in a short time.
- If final boss Edric jumps in the air, a small red dot will indicate where he will land. Dodge to avoid getting hit. It’s best to run to the edge of the battlefield and dodge the energy waves that stream out in all directions after Edric lands.
- During the fight, the boss will eventually jump behind shields in the middle of the arena and will be invulnerable behind these shields. You must wait until he comes back out. In the meantime, dodge the explosions in the arena.
- Edric additionally attacks with a whirlwind attack. This causes a lot of damage. Don’t get caught.
