For the latest DLC of Dead by Daylight negative reviews are piling up. The reason: The new killer no longer speaks his ambiguous words.
Another outcry is going through the community of Dead by Daylight – at least part of it. Because the new killer Pinhead (“The Cenobite”) arrived differently in the live version than players knew from the test realm. Not only does he cause some player disconnects, but he also now has significantly less sexual ambiguity. This has led to many negative reviews on Reddit.
What happened? The Cenobite has been released and can now be played on the live servers. However, there was a change: His voice lines were removed. And this makes some players very angry, causing them to bombard the DLC with negative reviews on Steam. Only 43% of the ratings are positive, while 57% are negative (as of 09.09.2021, 00:00).
What does this have to do with sex? At first glance, very little. It mainly concerns the voice line that played when a survivor solved the box (“Lament Configuration”). This allows Pinhead to teleport directly to the survivor with the phrase: “The Box. You opened it. And I came.”
And because the internet is sometimes just the internet, it instantly became a meme in the Dead by Daylight community, as the “I came” was of course taken in a sexual context and delighted viewers in the Twitch chats of several streamers and on the game’s subreddit.
So it sounded in the PTR of the chapter:
Why was this removed? The exact reason is not known. Dead by Daylight only states that they “can currently make no comment” on the matter. So we don’t know exactly what the reason is.
However, there are some speculations in the community. Some players suspect that there were issues with the license regarding the voice. This would explain why they removed the voice at the last moment. It is also speculated that the license holder did not want Pinhead to appear in such a “ridiculous” light, as was already the case on the PTR due to the voice line.
After all, most license holders have an interest in ensuring that their horror characters are authentic in other games and do not become a laughing stock.
This is, however, only speculation.
This is how the community reacts: Quite disappointed. For not only is the line, which many had already come to love and which was an original quote from the films, absent, but also other sound effects from Pinhead have disappeared. His “pain sounds”, like when he is stunned by a pallet or makes a hit with his attack, are also missing.
The Dead by Daylight community has a very “strange” relationship with the killers anyway. After all, the K-Pop killer “Trickster” was also declared a sex symbol of the game.
