The Free2Play MMO DC Universe Online is on Xbox One and this causes an unexpected rush on the servers.
DC Universe Online is not exactly a blockbuster. At least not for many years. The game was released in 2011 for PC and PS3. Then in 2013 for PS4. DC Universe has long been a Free2Play title and is certainly out of the mainstream’s great interest, although the developers continue to emphasize that it is doing excellently and is indeed one of the major tentpoles of the studio.
5 years after the release, there is now a real rush for the action MMO. At Massivelyp they write: “I never thought I would write something like this, but: DC Universe Online is just too successful for its own good.“
Because now, this weekend, DCUO has been released for Xbox One and has a problem that it hasn’t had in a long time: It is simply too successful. The launch of the Free2Play title caused long queues. 160 minutes of waiting was reported over the weekend in tweets.
Players complained on our social media channels about this, considering it a trick to get them to pay. But the servers are simply overloaded. The demand is far too great. Daybreak did not anticipate this. The actual interest exceeded even the wildest assumptions. Since the launch on Friday, the servers have simply been clogged.
Please read this update on Xbox server capacity and login queues. We have increased capacity by 60% since launch: https://t.co/utf37Pxdwj

At the developer company Daybreak, they have addressed this unfamiliar problem: The demand is enormous. And they have now brought additional servers online and increased the capacity of the existing ones. Yesterday, they had already added 60% server capacity for the USA and 50% for the EU servers; currently, the US servers are down again: they are scaling up.
The goal is that no one has to see a waiting queue. They are adding hardware all week: The biggest delivery is expected next Saturday, then they will have twice the capacity as on launch day Friday.
