The Free2Play MMO Dauntless is considered the Western answer to “Monster Hunter.” A new trailer for Pax East shows new footage and the combat system.
PC players have been enviously looking at console gamers for years, who get to enjoy Capcom’s “Monster Hunter” series. It is especially popular in Asia and is found on Nintendo and Sony consoles: Monster Hunter games are available for the PlayStation 2, Wii, PlayStation Portable, PlayStation 3, Nintendo 3DS, and Wii U.
While there are online games for PC such as Monster Hunter Online, they never made it to Europe and can only be played in Asia.
If we don’t get Monster Hunter Online in the West, we’ll just play Dauntless
Monster Hunter is incredibly popular, but PC players and Westerners are left out. They watch the monster hunting from the sidelines. Dauntless is supposed to change that. It is thought to be a kind of mix between Monster Hunter and Dark Souls.
Dauntless is a Free2Play action RPG focused on co-op and boss fights. Essentially, it leaves out everything that usually belongs to an MMORPG, focusing on the boss battles against monsters called Behemoths, and the preparation for these fights. Currently, the first demo versions only showcase the fights: 4 players fight against a monster. Later, other elements are supposed to come to Dauntless.
This weekend, the PAX East fair is taking place in Boston. Here, a new trailer for two Behemoths and the fight against them was released.
These are the Behemoths Shrike and Pangar:
- Shrike is an owl-like creature
- Pangar can roll up like an armadillo and then attacks well-armored.
