With Dauntless, the indie studio Phoenix Labs has announced a new cooperative action-RPG, reminiscent of a mix of World of Warcraft, Monster Hunter, and Dark Souls.
What happens when developers who previously worked at Bioware, Riot Games, Capcom, and Blizzard come together to create a new game? Dauntless. An action-RPG that is played online and cooperatively.
The Fight for Home!
Dauntless places you in a world called Shattered Isles. There, humans live in constant fear of the so-called Behemoths, enormous, terrifying monsters. The humans had to flee to flying islands to escape these beings and now want to reclaim their homeland. Brave heroes known as Slayers set out to free the land. You are one of these heroes. Cooperative teamwork is the focus.
Together with up to four friends, you embark on a journey to explore the world, fight against the Behemoths and other creatures, and improve your heroes through skills and increasingly powerful equipment. The developers claim that they drew inspiration from Dark Souls, Monster Hunter, and World of Warcraft.
Prepare for the Hunt
You will engage in the hunt for massive beasts that you must defeat as a group, explore the world in a comic-style graphic, and face extreme challenges in battles. Crafting also plays a role, as you will need to create particularly powerful weapons yourself. Furthermore, you should equip yourself well and strategically for each hunt, as each Behemoth must be defeated with a different strategy.
Dauntless will be released next year as a free-to-play game for PC. On the official website, it is already possible to reserve a name for your hero and sign up for the beta. However, when it will start is still not known.

Dauntless sounds very interesting. Going on cooperative hunts for massive beasts could be a lot of fun. The unique comic-style graphics also create a cohesive atmosphere. There isn’t much to see from the action-RPG yet, but I will keep an eye on it, as the trailer made me eager to hunt the Behemoths.
