A lead developer and Creative Director of Cyberpunk 2077 revealed with a statement the abandonment of cinematic scenes in the sequel, tentatively called “Project Orion.” However, it is not because the developers do not find it appealing. They simply want to continue relying on their greatest strength.
What did the Creative Director explain? Creative Director Igor Sarzynski presented with a post on Bluesky a few older screenshots that the lead took during his playtime in Phantom Liberty. In the DLC, he was himself the Narrative Director and consequently responsible for the vision and processing of the story.

Sarzynski reminisces and admits that “it would be really nice to incorporate cutscenes into the game, as everything simply looks so stunning.” However, what initially sounds like a potential confirmation of a cutscene update in Cyberpunk 2077 or establishment in the sequel is already contradicted by the next sentence. Because “ultimately, I simply value our uninterrupted immersion more.”
Cyberpunk focuses on immersion instead of heavy cinematic scenes
What does this mean for the future of Cyberpunk? It is not the first time that the Cyberpunk team has denied any plans for third-person cutscenes. Already in 2025, the official X account of Cyberpunk 2077 underscored this with a short but clear “Sorry, we have no such plans.”
Also, Quest Director Pawl Sasko commented in 2023 on the decision of a first-person experience: “The first-person perspective is the main feature of Cyberpunk, as well as its perception through the player. It also clearly distinguishes it from The Witcher.” (Source: TheGamer)
Of course, changes in decisions can occur during the development of Project Orion. So far, there has been no official confirmation or denial. However, based on the Creative Director’s post, it is evident that the team continues to value immersion very highly. Holding onto their strengths is certainly not a wrong approach, and the community agrees.
What does the community say about the post? Under the post on Bluesky, there are few disappointed players regarding this, but rather more fans who love the immersion in Cyberpunk 2077.
“The storytelling from the first-person perspective in Cyberpunk is incredible,” writes @belmontttttt on Bluesky, “You have pushed many boundaries in this area.”
But even to other users who find the lack of a third-person perspective unfortunate, the Creative Director has a response. This simple “decision” concerning narrative, scene design, and direction would increase the scope by 75%, which according to Sarzynski (on Bluesky) is not feasible.
Editor Caro from MeinMMO also greatly appreciates the immersion in Cyberpunk 2077. She feels so at home in Night City that she even gets homesick when she hasn’t visited the city and the game for a while: Since I did not play Cyberpunk 2077 on time for the release, I have now put in 150 hours and am the biggest fan
