It’s time for our MeinMMO format “MMORPG News in 5 Minutes.” We summarize the most important news about the best genre in the world. You can expect bare truths, fast servers, and important dates!
Highlights of the week:
- For Black Desert, Season V has started this week, with new servers promising fast progress and special rewards, achievements, and quests. You can find all the details about the season on playblackdesert.com. Black Desert has been captivating players for many years with its beautiful game world and the best action combat system in the MMORPG genre.
- The developers of The Lord of the Rings Online have announced their new expansion “Kingdoms of Harad”. There are many new content pieces for veterans and a promise for your characters.
- No microtransactions, no in-game shop, no expensive deluxe packages, and no paid DLCs. That’s the promise of the new MMORPG Ship of Heroes on Steam, which revives an old-school payment model. This plan is not well-received by all genre fans. Unfortunately, the launch was indeed the feared crash landing: The reviews are as disastrous as the player numbers are low.
- In WoW, many dates are coming up: The Brewfest has started, fans of Mists of Pandaria Classic can look forward to the Landing update, and on October 1st, a new Twitch Drop (a Baby Fel Lord) and a Deep Dive into the Midnight expansion await you. You can find all the details on blizzard.com.
What else has happened? Much more important this week has been the question of what will happen soon! While the new releases for the MMORPG genre disappoint, some of the established online RPGs are preparing for the hottest month of the year 2025: October will be THE big highlight in an otherwise very weak MMORPG year 2025.
For the new expansion of The Lord of the Rings Online, there is currently only a first teaser trailer:
