At the Game Awards 2023, the best eSports coach of the year is to be crowned, but the nomination of a coach from Counter-Strike 2 is met with confusion.
Who is it about?
- Rémy “XTQZZZ” Quoniam is a French coach for Counter-Strike and has been with Team Vitality since October 2023.
- XTQZZZ has been active in the Counter-Strike eSports scene for many years and previously coached G2 Esports, among others. He was also a coach for Team Vitality from 2018 to 2021.
- With Team Vitality, XTQZZZ has achieved several successes in the past, including tournament victories at EPICENTER 2019, the Finals of the Esports Championship Series Season 7 (also in 2019), and BLAST Premier: Fall 2020.
Inactive coach nominated as best coach
What kind of nomination is this? Rémy “XTQZZZ” Quoniam has now been nominated by “The Game Awards” as the best eSports coach of the year 2023 (via X.com/ Twitter). The Game Awards is an annual award ceremony where, among other things, the game of the year is crowned.
In addition to numerous award categories for video games, the Game Awards also want to give eSports some attention and therefore award prizes for the best eSports athlete, the best eSports event, and also the best eSports coach of the year.
In addition to Rémy “XTQZZZ” Quoniam, the following coaches are also nominated for the award:

Why is the nomination of the coach so absurd? Even XTQZZZ finds his nomination incomprehensible, as he has not really worked as a coach this year. In a post on X.com (formerly Twitter), the 34-year-old writes: “Remove me from the list.”
And in fact, XTQZZZ has been inactive for most of the year. Since leaving his position as coach at G2 Esports in October 2022, he has not really been working as a team coach. Only between the end of August and the beginning of October 2023 did XTQZZZ work for 39 days for a newly formed roster from TSM.
Fans suspect a mix-up
What does the community say about the nomination of the coach? They are mainly confused and wonder how this absurd choice could happen.
In the comments to a post on Reddit, a user asks whether the responsible parties simply looked at which team won a tournament and who is currently the coach of that team.
This would explain why XTQZZZ appears as the coach of Team Vitality, as the French team was able to win the Paris Major in May 2023 – however, at that time, the 37-year-old Dane Danny “zonic” Sørensen was the coach of Team Vitality.
However, it is curious that zonic is also nominated as the best coach, but is listed as the coach for Team Falcons. Although this is zonic’s current team, he has not been able to achieve any significant successes with the Falcons so far.
