Creators of Game of Thrones would do one thing differently today – And it’s not the finale

The creators of “Game of Thrones” were asked in an interview what they would like to change about their fantasy series in hindsight.

In an interview from January 17, 2024 with The Hollywood Reporter, the two creators of Game of Thrones, David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, discussed their upcoming project 3 Body Problem.

However, they were also asked about their hit HBO series and whether there was something they would like to change about it.

Instead of addressing the finale that was torn apart by viewers at the time, they gave an unexpected answer and criticized a small detail in their series.

In episode 6 of the first season Game of Thrones, Tyrion Lannister is thrown into one of the sky cells in the Eyrie.

There he meets the jailer named Mord. In good Lannister fashion, Tyrion offers him a bribe, but initially meets with rejection, and the gaoler strikes the prisoner.

However, after Tyrion sweetens the offer a bit more, Mord accepts and helps him escape from prison.

Tyrion throws Mord the promised bag of gold as a farewell. After that, we never see the supporting character again in the series.

However, it was precisely this detail of the inconspicuous character that the creators would have liked to change. Weiss remarked in the interview: “It was a mistake not to reintroduce Mord, the gaoler.” (Source: hollywoodreporter.com)

Benioff further explained that there was even the perfect scene to allow the character to appear again:

“Was it Brienne or The Hound? […] But we realized too late that Mord could have owned the tavern. We could have had the actor play exactly how he did as the gaoler, just now as the owner of a small business. It was just such an obvious, straightforward idea that we had the next day.“
