After Valheim was released some time ago, many players have already fought through all the content – sometimes multiple times. A particularly ambitious Viking is now attempting his own challenge: he only wants to kill the final boss and is forgoing many features.
Who is the player? The Reddit user Templenuts has reportedly spent almost 500 hours in Valheim. While others build entire villages in that time, he has played on various servers with his friends.
During his time in the game, he has apparently seen a lot and has certainly defeated all bosses. Now he has decided to play solo – with a very special challenge.
What kind of challenge is this? Templenuts plans to kill only the final boss Yagluth, the large skeleton in the desert. All other bosses will remain alive. Furthermore, he forbids himself several conveniences. This means:
- the progress that bosses usually bring will be denied to him – such as Dragon Tears or the Divining Rod
- he cannot use any of the boss abilities that would give him an advantage in battle
- additionally, he has decided not to use portals or tame the wild animals of Valheim
- he will also avoid admin commands (“Cheats”) and Mods
The avoidance of animals is quite important, as some players have managed to kill the final boss in seconds with a pack of wolves. The challenge sounds impossible at first, but Templenuts has been at it for 70 days now and seems to have a plan for how it all should work.
“Only the final boss” – Is that even possible?
This is how he plans to do it: In his post on Reddit, he explains how he has already circumvented some issues in the game. By not killing Eikthyr, he cannot craft a pickaxe – at least not the first one.
Instead, he has convinced a troll in the dark forest to strike copper and tin deposits to take the ores afterwards. This way he quickly acquired bronze equipment and tools.
At the moment, he only gets iron from random drops from the rare enemies in the swamp, as he cannot enter the crypts, and buried deposits are hardly findable without a Divining Rod. Consequently, he also lacks good travel options like a Longship.
He relies on a Karve, on which he places a cart to travel with more storage space. This allows him to loot distant islands. He has now set up his camp on an island that contains all biomes except for the mountains.
What are the difficulties? Templenuts reports that at the moment, elite enemies and groups are making life difficult for him. Normal enemies, even in the plains, he can take down with bronze equipment as long as they are alone.
However, it is hard to raid the goblins in their villages. He needs to do this to obtain barley and totems. Only with the totems can he summon Yagluth, and he needs the barley for wine, which grants him resistance to fire damage.
Since he has not defeated Moder, he cannot grind the barley. Therefore, he lacks flour to craft the best food in Valheim: Lox pies. At the moment he is mainly relying on sausages, sea serpent stew, and grilled lox meat.
Whether he will accomplish the challenge he set for himself remains to be seen. He sounds at least still ambitious and experienced enough to pull it off. If you’re not as hardcore as Templenuts, you can find tips on how to defeat the bosses on MeinMMO:
