Conan Exiles has received a new, massive update after its first year in release. The update brings several new dungeons, new features, and recipes that make the Exiled Lands even more diverse.
What is this update about? On May 8, 2019, Conan Exiles received the major update 1.40 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The new patch is referred to as the “Anniversary Update” and arrives exactly one year after the release of Conan Exiles on May 8, 2018.
The update is free for all players and brings:
- a large new dungeon
- a mini-dungeon
- new companions
- a revamp of many NPC settlements and cities

What’s included in the new Conan Exiles update
This new dungeon is: East of the Exiled Lands lies an island beneath which a sunken city exists. The island can only be reached by ship from the Dagon’s Embrace, on the eastern shore of the jungle.
There, exactly in the bay, lies a small boat. Use it and you will reach the island, where followers of Dagon await you. After fighting through some of the resident NPCs, you can dive into the sea around the island.
There you will find some temples, each presenting its own small challenges. Throughout the experience, Dagon speaks to you, a god that originally comes from Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos, guiding you to free him. Along your way through the dungeon, you will discover various recipes such as:
- Lemurian weapons and armors
- improved aloe potions
- improved water breathing potions (Breath of Dagon)
- better fishing
It is advisable to bring some breathing potions with you, as you might otherwise encounter problems with your air supply. The dungeon is slightly larger than the Midnight Grove.
This is the mini-dungeon: Near the neutral city of Sepermeru, you will find the entrance to a scorpion cave. The cave between Rhino’s Ridge and Jawbone is not particularly large and only contains a scorpion boss and a scorpion queen, along with some small scorpions.
These new companions are available: Coinciding with the new cave, you can now also tame scorpions through the companion and pet system. However, you will need the egg sacs, which can only be obtained in front of the queen and that only very rarely.
Additionally, there is a new talent “Medicine Man” (Witch Doctor) that you can learn at the Summoning place. Through the main gate and up the stairs on the right, there lies a diary beside a cauldron. Read it, and you will learn the skill.
With “Medicine Man,” you can now make skeletons as servants at fire cauldrons using some rare materials like fragments of power. You can then place them like thralls or pets and command them to guard something or follow you.
Play Conan Exiles for free
In line with the new update, you can play Conan Exiles for free on Steam. The event is already running at the time of writing and will last until May 13. After that, Conan Exiles will be available at a 50% discount until May 20 for €19.99.
Additionally, anyone who had a PS Plus subscription in April can also play Conan Exiles for free on PS4. Conan Exiles was part of the PS Plus games in April 2019.
