In Conan Exiles, you can worship various gods and receive valuable rewards for your devotion. Here you will learn how to gain the favor of Yog, Mitra, and Set and what secrets each faith reveals.
Right at the beginning of the game during character creation in Conan Exiles, you can determine your barbarian’s religion alongside the breast and penis size. Currently, in the early access version, only four gods are available: the grim Crom, the gruesome Yog, the dark Set, and the just Mitra. But what do piety and faith bring you in the barbarian survival MMO?
Conan Exiles – Religion – The Basics of Worship
One thing to note: Your choice at the beginning of the game only dictates which god you can immediately build a shrine for. You can also learn the shrines and religious teachings of the other gods at the corresponding cost of learning points, but this will cost quite a few points and you will also need to visit the respective teacher of the desired religion.
So think carefully about which god you choose, as each deity offers different bonuses and special items. Also, be aware that the shrines of different gods cannot be built too close to each other.

What Does Religion Bring in Conan Exiles?
Religion is richly rewarded in Conan Exiles. Your chosen god grants you knowledge of their shrine right from the start. There, you can begin collecting favor with the deity early on and receive special items for your worship.
As you continue to expand your shrine with increasing divine favor, you will receive further goodies and may eventually rise to become a priest. Once you have acquired enough favor with your god, you can summon an avatar of your god with the help of a sacrificed slave priest, who will then crush everything in its path as an unstoppable giant beast.
While controlling the avatar, your barbarian will remain standing in a well-visible light column at the altar. If a nasty assassin knocks you down in this state, the godly spectacle ends. But what use does each god have?
Which God in Conan Exiles is Right for Your Playstyle?
Yog – Not for Vegans!
The gruesome god Yog sounds a bit like the similarly horrific “Yog-Sothoth” from the Cthulhu Mythos. The “Lord of the Void” is a terrible being that is primarily worshipped by the wild cannibal tribe of the Dafari, demanding that his followers eat only meat.
At least once a month, juicy human flesh must also be grilled, which must be “flawless”. This means that for the Yoggites, the flesh must be struck from the corpse with a special club instead of a blade.
You will receive such a club when you build a “Yog pit” for your gruesome patron. The human flesh prepared there is a true miracle cure in the harsh Conan world, as it does not spoil, heals you even in combat, and even grants water upon consumption.
Later, we can craft special weapons and armor pieces with Yog’s blessing here, but the human flesh remains the best resource we can obtain here, as you can read in our level guide to Conan Exiles.
Mitra – For Supporters
The god Mitra is a deity of law and justice. Therefore, this patron is ideal for players who want to build something and help their teammates.
To please Mitra, you must collect the essence of dead enemies with the help of your holy ankh. You will receive the ankh from your first god shrine.
From the essence, you create valuable ambrosia at the sanctuary, a powerful healing remedy that grants you regeneration – even in combat.
Mitra priests later get the opportunity to construct sacred statues that help all players. For example, by creating an everlasting well in front of the statue.
Set – For Nasty Ranged Fighters
The Stygian snake god Set is one of the strongest and most feared gods in the Conan universe. For instance, the powerful wizard Thoth Amon from the MMORPG Age of Conan or the equally horrific cult leader Thulsa Doom from the first Conan film are devotees of Set.
Those who serve Set must not kill snakes. Never! In return, they receive an antidote from the altar and can use the snakes as deadly arrows – just like in the Conan film!
This makes Set particularly suitable for ranged fighters. To obtain all the Set goodies, you must take your sacrificial dagger and cut the heart out of dead enemies’ chests to sacrifice it at your altar.
Crom – For Atheists
Real barbarians do not whine before gods! Those who think this are likely followers of the grim god Crom. Crom sits in his mountain and does not care about what mortals do.
So if you don’t feel like religion in Conan Exiles, choose this god. However, you will get nothing! No altars for Crom followers.
However, later in the game, you can still be initiated into one of the other religions for valuable learning points and then build their altars. It is still unclear whether Crom followers receive any other rewards for their atheism.
So much for the religions in Conan Exiles. In the future, the developers are definitely planning on human sacrifices from other players for even more divine favor. Additionally, more gods are expected to come, increasing the selection to at least seven deities.
Among them will most likely be the god Dagoth from the second Conan film. But the demon god Xotli, who had an entire class dedicated to him in Age of Conan, is also expected to join the game someday.
