In Conan Exiles, an update is coming soon that will allow you to tame animals. In a newsletter, the developers reveal how the pet system will work. We explain how to tame and use pets in Conan Exiles.
Pets in Conan Exiles: In the survival MMO Conan Exiles, you will soon be able to enjoy animal companions. “Pets” are expected to be implemented on the test live servers on August 16. Experience shows that such updates typically appear on the live servers a few days to two weeks later.
Pets are likely to come to Conan Exiles this August.
Taming and using animals in Conan Exiles
It has been known for a while that pets are to be a part of Conan Exiles. In the newsletter, developer Funcom explains exactly how you will be able to tame pets and what benefits they will provide.
Step 1 – Obtain young animals: To tame an animal, you need to find young animals or eggs in the world. You can find both in the open world, where you can simply collect them, or at rare traders.
Eggs will eventually hatch in your inventory and be replaced by a young animal, as if you had picked one up. To prevent the young animals from dying, you need to “convert” them, similar to slaves.
These animals will be available in Conan Exiles
Funcom has attached a list of initially available species:
- Bears
- Hyenas
- Crocodiles
- Ostriches
- Jungle birds
- Rhinos
- Locusts
- Stone noses
- Wild boars
- Gazelles
- Camels
- Slate-backed
- Spiders
- Big cats
- Wolves
New building: Enclosures
Step 2 – Taming animals: Once you have a young animal in your inventory, you need to place it in an enclosure. Enclosures are new buildings that will be introduced, available in wood, steel, and hardened steel. The quality of the enclosure affects the quality of the adult animal.
A young animal grows up in an enclosure and will slowly become a companion, similar to a slave in the Wheel of Pain. However, you need to feed it. Each animal has different food preferences. If you feed it with food it likes, you will get better animals.
Baby hyenas can grow into regular hyenas with normal nutrition, into striped hyenas with better nutrition, and with the best nutrition, with some luck, into rare “Greater” hyenas.
Food is the most important
Step 3 – Deploying animals: Once you have an adult animal, you can either take it with you to accompany you or leave it in the enclosure. In both cases, however, you need to feed it by putting food in the animal’s inventory or providing a trough.
If you want an animal as a companion, you can also simply use and place it from your inventory, just like slaves. Animals like wolves and hyenas will help you in combat. Other animals like camels can carry more loads for you with a larger inventory. However, you cannot ride them.
If you choose to leave the animals in the enclosure, they can produce resources for you. From simple dung or stone to crystals and iron ore, which you can obtain from stone noses, they can provide you with many useful materials.
A new religion: Jhebbal Sag
Along with the animal companions, a new religion will be introduced with the patch that you can join. The god Jhebbal Sag, the Beast King, serves as a patron for animals and is expected to offer benefits for animal breeding at his temples.
However, what exactly you can do with Jhebbal Sag in relation to the animals is still not clearly defined.
