To help you navigate through Conan Exiles, the game features the so-called “Journey”. The Journey provides you with ever new goals that come with rewards. Most of the steps are hidden – but we have the complete Journey for you!
What is the Journey? The Journey (German: Reise) accompanies you on your path through Conan Exiles. It offers you ever new goals that you can pursue when you get stuck.
The Journey consists of ten chapters, each with ten steps. These steps become increasingly challenging and are harder to complete. The first steps are very easy and quickly provide new characters with experience points.
There are some ambiguities in the individual steps of the Journey, as the later chapters are hidden. This makes it difficult for players to experience the steps when they are stuck on earlier tasks.
Level up faster through the Journey – List of all Chapters
This is how to level up faster with the Journey: Every step you complete on your Journey grants you a substantial boost in experience. If you accomplish all the goals, you can quickly and efficiently reach level 60. Complete early simple steps from later chapters for more experience.
Some of the steps are difficult to complete or unclear. We have listed the entire Journey for you. Additionally, we have compiled some tips on how to best fulfill the goals. With our tips on the steps, you will find it easier to reach certain goals.

Chapter 1
- Climbing: Climb a wall or an object.
- Drinking: Drink from a waterskin or a body of water.
- Eating: Eat something. At the beginning, you can easily find eggs, maggots, insects, or berries in bushes.
- Using a bed or a bedroll: Build a simple fiber bedroll (2 branches, 3 twine, and 6 plant fibers) and use it.
- Dress up: Put on a piece of clothing. The first available clothing can be crafted directly from plant fibers in your inventory.
- To victory! Kill an enemy.
- Craft a tool: Craft a tool. The simplest tools are stone pickaxes and stone axes (5 branches and 5 stones each).
- Find signs of intelligent life: Right at the location where you enter the world, you will find an obelisk and a note. Use one of them to complete the step.
- Kick: Press the kick button without having a weapon equipped (Default: Left Ctrl / L2 / LT)
- Dodge: Perform a dodge roll (Default: Left Alt / Circle / B)
Chapter 2
- Invest knowledge points: Allocate one point in the attribute menu after you level up.
- Acquire a sacred weapon: Have a weapon in your inventory. The first available weapon is a stone sword. Learn the “Warrior” talent at level 4 and craft a stone sword (5 branches, 20 stones, and 5 twine). You can also obtain weapons from a friend.
- Consume a hearty meal: Eat something that has been cooked. It suffices to place pieces of meat or steaks in a campfire and cook them.
- Seek shelter: You must receive the “Sheltered” status. You can find shelter in caves and protected nooks in the mountains. If you want to create your own shelter, learn the “Stone Mason Apprentice” talent at level 3 and build a foundation with four walls and a roof.
- Execute a heavy finisher with a weapon: The finisher is the 4th attack in a combo. After three consecutive attacks, press the heavy attack button (Default: Right Mouse Button / R2 / RT).
- Use a torch: Equip a torch in the quick slot and use it. You can get torches from friends or craft them yourself. (Improvised torch: 5 branches and 5 plant fibers)
- Scout a camp of exiles: Find a camp of exiles and approach it. You can find exile camps around the river you encounter at the beginning. Look for big campfires.
- Store goods: Place something in a chest or box. If you want to craft a box yourself, learn “Box Maker” at level 2 and craft a wooden box from 100 wood and 12 twine.
- Create a home: You automatically fulfill this goal when you build a house. Simply place several foundations together with the “Stone Mason Apprentice” talent at level 3 and build walls and roofs on them. You can find the best building places for your home here.
- Block an attack: For this step, you need a shield. Get a shield from a friend or craft one yourself with the “Defender” talent at level 5. A wooden shield (16 wood, 4 twine) or a bone shield (24 bones, 16 wood, 4 twine) will suffice and can also be found on enemies. Parry an enemy’s attack with your shield drawn and press the special button (Default: Left Ctrl / L2 / LT).
Chapter 3
- Equip a light armor piece: Get a light armor piece from a friend or craft one at an armor bench. You just need to equip the piece. This step is not fulfilled by many players – so if it doesn’t work, it is a bug.
- Skin an animal with a skinning knife: Obtain a skinning knife from a friend or via the “Butcher Apprentice” talent at level 15. (5 branches and 20 iron ingots at the blacksmith’s workbench). Equip the tool and perform an attack on the corpse of an animal or a human.
- Scout a Darfari camp: Darfari settle in the desert. If you see a banner with an eye on it or fences made of long wooden stakes from a distance, approach them. Darfari have dark skin and often wear tribal clothing.
- Obtain an iron ingot: Take an iron ingot from a corpse or a chest, or craft one yourself. You need the “Blacksmith” talent at level 10 and a furnace. Place two pieces of iron ore and some coal in the furnace, turn it on, and wait.

- Find someone to talk to: Some NPCs in the Exiled Lands are friendly towards you. The first of these NPCs can be found right at the great river below the waypoint “The Guardians”: Arcos, the Wanderer. You can also find some teachers of religions in the desert at certain locations. Talk to one of them, and the step is complete. Other players do not count!
- Shoot an enemy: For this step, it is enough to fire an arrow at an enemy. You do not have to slay him with the shot. This is easiest if you target him and attack with a light attack.
- Worship the Gods: You must build the temple of your chosen deity (360 stones, 160 wood, and 20 twine). If you have selected Crom, this step is not possible! You then need to learn a different religion from a teacher in the world.
- Acquire a head: Harvest a dead animal with an axe. With a little luck, you will find a head while doing this.
- Throw a bomb: You can find bombs most easily on enemies. This includes gas bombs, water bombs, tar bombs, and all other variants. Equip the bomb in your selection slot, select it, and perform an attack.
- Scrape bark from trees with a pick: Hit a tree with any pick until you get bark.
Chapter 4
- Bind an enemy to the Wheel of Pain: With the “Thrall Taker” talent at level 10, you can craft a Wheel of Pain, a club, and fiber bindings in your inventory. Craft everything and then attack a human NPC with the club until he is unconscious. Equip the bindings and use them on the unconscious opponent. Drag him to the Wheel and use it, and the step is complete.
- Sleep in a bed: Use a bed. This includes any type of bed, but not a simple bedroll made of leather or fibers.
- Craft an iron tool: Iron tools can be crafted at the blacksmith’s workbench. You need the “Iron Tools” talent at level 10 for this.
- Obtain a potion: You only need to have the potion in your inventory – the easiest way is to let someone give you one. Otherwise, you can craft an Aloe Extract (10 Aloe Leaves) in the firebowl cauldron using the same talent at level 15. You can also obtain an equipment potion – but it has strange effects.
- Show religious zeal: Craft any item at your altar.
- Dye an object: If you have found or crafted a dye, select a piece of armor. In the “More” option, you will find the “Dye” option. Select a slot of the armor, then the dye and confirm your selection.
- Catch a fish: For this step, you just need to take a fish from a fish trap. You do not need to craft the fish trap yourself.
- Plant seeds: Put compost and a plant seed together in a planting trough. You do not need the corresponding talent for this. As long as you have a planting trough and the required material, you can complete this step. Here’s how composting and agriculture works in detail.
- Gain a benefit: Invest 10 points in an attribute.

Chapter 5
- Craft an exceptional or flawless item: Exceptional or flawless items can be crafted at the blacksmith’s, armorer’s, or carpenter’s workbenches when at least one level 2 thrall is working at them.
- Destroy the relic of the abyss: This refers to the boss of the dungeon “The Abyssal Depths”. To enter the dungeon, a human must die on the stone pattern in front of the door. Bring many arrows and a bow, as a gong puzzle awaits you that you must solve with ranged combat.
- Improve a building part: Place a building part made of bricks or insulated wood.
- Obtain the head of a boss creature: Bosses are tough opponents. The easiest variant for this step are elk kings in the tundra in the north. You recognize them by their dense antlers.
- Ride an elevator: Elevators can be crafted at the carpenter’s workbench. For the step, you only need to use one.
- Scout a camp of the Black Hand: The Black Hand has a hand as its symbol. The members are usually better equipped. There are some camps in the swamp and in the eastern desert. The “Black Galleon” is the easiest to find. The structure also resembles a ship on the map.
- Adorn yourself with war paint: Obtain war paint from a friend or through the “Decorative War Paints” talent at level 22. Then simply use the item in your inventory.
- Fire a trebuchet: Trebuchets can be built with the “Engineer” talent at level 25. Once all four parts are assembled, you simply need to load a siege stone into it and fire the device.
- Combine the effect of bombs: Throw a demon fire bomb at the location where you previously threw a tar bomb. Here’s how to make tar bombs and demon fire bombs.

- Climb the Tower of Bats: You can find the tower southeast of the Nameless City on a hill. Climb as high as you can until the step is completed.
Chapter 6
- Use explosives: Use a bomb. Equip it in the action bar and select it. You can now place it like a building part and then use it. Be sure to take cover, the explosion radius is large!
- Modify a weapon: Apply one of the modifications from the “Weapon Smith Apprentice” talent at level 26. Simply drag the upgrade onto a weapon in your inventory. The weapon must have full durability.
- Scout a camp of desert dogs: Desert dogs can be found in the north and northwest of the desert. Their sign is four scratches that look like the wound of a claw. Their largest stronghold is “The Den” right in the north of the Nameless City.
- Lure an enemy into a trap: For this step, you need a trap bomb or a gas trap. Place the trap on the ground like a bomb and lure an enemy into it. The traps will not activate for a few seconds, so you must keep the enemy in position.
- Modify armor: Apply a modification from the “Armorsmith Apprentice” talent at level 26. Simply drag the upgrade onto a piece of armor in your inventory. The armor must have full durability.
- Crush something in the liquid press: Squeeze something in the press. The easiest to find are five berries or five pieces of coal. Make sure you put in the minimum amount.
- Drink water from a well: Look for a player-built well and use it.
- Incapacitate an enemy: Perform heavy attacks/special attacks with swords or bows. A yellow trail on the hit indicates that you have incapacitated him.
- Sever: Perform heavy attacks/special attacks with hammers. A blue trail on the hit indicates that you are severing.
- Cause an enemy to bleed: Perform heavy attacks/special attacks with daggers or spears (no throwing spears). A red trail on the hit indicates that you are causing bleeding.
Chapter 7
- Survive a sandstorm outside of refuge: Equip a sandstorm mask and stand in the sandstorm. The step is then immediately completed.
- Explore the nameless city: Venture far enough into the red-colored area in the middle of the map until the step is completed.
- Survive a purge: Be present when you or your clan are hit by a purge. Do not die during this!
- Kill a dragon: Dragons can be found most easily in the west of the Nameless City. Be careful: Dragons are tough opponents!
- Visit Sepermeru: Sepermeru is the city of relic hunters far to the west. The NPCs there will not attack you. You do not have to kill them immediately when you see them.
- Activate an obelisk: Obelisks are large black towers that are usually surrounded by a purple glow. Approach one and use it. You can find a map of all obelisks here.
- Craft a map room: To build a map room, you must learn the “Cartographer” talent from the archivist in the archives of the Nameless City. Where to find the archivist and how to craft a map room is explained in our guide.
- Recruit a unique thrall: Some enemies have names instead of descriptions. Break such an enemy at the Wheel of Pain and give him a place in your base.

- Equip a thief armor piece: Equip any piece from the “Thief Armor” talent at level 30.
- Remove corruption by watching a performer: Stand near a dancer or musician. If you do not have such a thrall, you can find neutral dancers in the tavern in Sepermeru.
Chapter 8
- Visit New Asgarth: New Asgarth is the circular city in the middle of the tundra to the north. Beware: The Nordheimers are tough opponents!
- Defeat the scourge of mankind: Defeat the boss in the Black Fortress to the north.
- Get utterly drunk: Drink five alcoholic beverages in a row.
- Enter the Palace of the Witch Queen: The palace is located in the middle of the Forgotten City Xel-ha in the east of the swamp. You only need to enter the dungeon and explore it far enough, but you do not need to kill the Witch Queen.
- Drink a Yellow Lotus Potion: Yellow Lotus Potions can be crafted with ten Yellow Lotus Blossoms at the firebowl cauldron. Be careful: When you drink it, you forget all your talents and attributes!
- Harvest the Black Lotus Blossom: You can find Black Lotus in the Black Gardens right in front of the Forgotten City Xel-ha. Wear a sandstorm mask, as the gases can kill you quickly. The area is guarded by gorillas, so make sure to prepare well!
- Find all Lemurian history stones: The stones are scattered all over the world. This step will take the longest and should be skipped for now.
- Mine Star Metal. Find a piece of star metal ore. You only need to have the ore in your pocket and do not need to mine it. If you want to mine it yourself, you must find meteorites high in the north and blow them up with a bomb. Then, the ore will be exposed and can be mined. - Upgrade your building to the highest level: Build a building part reinforced with black ice from hardened bricks or insulated wood. Here you can find out how to harden bricks.
- Investigate what haunts the ruins of the sanctuary: Go to the top of the island in the east of the tundra and read the stone tablet there.
Chapter 9
- Visit the Hills of the Dead: In the west of the tundra is a pond in a barren area. Explore it until the step is complete. Beware: Ghosts and well-equipped enemies await here!
- Defeat the Hill King: The Hill King is an undead giant in the west of the Hills of the Dead. His cave is sealed by a stone that is moved with demon blood.
- Obtain a weapon made of black ice: Weapons made of black ice can only be crafted in the Temple of Frost or at a level 3 altar of Ymir. However, it is enough to borrow a weapon from a friend; it only needs to be in your inventory.
- Strengthen yourself with war paint: Apply a war paint with practical effects. These can be crafted with the “Functional War Paint” talent at level 42.
- Summon witch fire: You must have a witch fire torch in your inventory. You can borrow it or craft it with the “Alchemical Powder” talent at level 46.
- Pour boiling oil from a siege cauldron: Siege cauldrons must be mounted on battlements. Fill them with tar and use them.
- Maintain normal temperature in extreme cold: Keep your body temperature in the mid-range through clothing, food, and drinks while being in icy surroundings. The easiest way to achieve this is to cross the Bridge of Betrayal with warm clothes after having eaten warming food.
- Defeat Hrugnir from the Frost: Hrugnir is the boss in the Temple of Frost.
- Equip a Nordheimer armor set: Equip any armor piece from the selection of “Nordheimer Armors” at level 40.
- Find all obelisks of the giant kings: Find and use each of the large black obelisks. You can check the locations of all obelisks in our guide.
Chapter 10
- Find a legendary weapon: Legendary weapons can be found in chests next to world bosses. To open them, you need a lockpick, which you find on the bosses. You can only open the chests at level 60, so it’s best to ask a friend to lend you his weapon.
- Destroy what lurks in the heart of the volcano: Kill the Degenerate in the Volcano.
- Obtain an obsidian weapon: You must have an obsidian weapon in your inventory. Obsidian can only be forged in the volcano.
- Craft a masterpiece: Craft an improved stove or an improved armorer’s workbench.
- Summon the avatar of a deity: Complete the “True Name” of a god in a fully built temple and use the item. Beware: The avatar is very large and should be summoned outside your base.
- Survive the heat of the volcano: Keep your body temperature in the mid-range through clothing, food, and drinks while you are in the volcano.
- Equip an epic armor set: Epic armors are recognized by the purple frame around the icon. It’s best to borrow the armor piece from a friend. Epic armors can only be crafted at improved armorer’s workbenches at level 60.
- Explore the land of the exiled: Explore every point in the Exiled Lands.
- Defeat the mummy of the rings: Defeat the servant of Thoth-Amon after you have found all the necessary items for his summoning.
- Escape from the land of the exiled: Once you have obtained all the items from all bosses, you can place them in the “Chaos Mund’s Altar”. You will then receive a key stone that allows you to remove your bracelet. Beware: This will delete your character!
Complete the Journey and collect trophies
You cannot complete all steps before reaching the maximum level. However, you can level up significantly with most steps as you gain a lot of experience through the Journey.
By completing the Journey, you also fulfill the criteria for most achievements and trophies available in the game. Get started and embark on your Journey!
