At E3 2019, Conan Exiles developer Funcom announced a new game: Conan Chop Chop. This has been known since April, but it was actually an April Fools’ joke that is now really happening.
What is Conan Chop Chop? On April 1, 2019, Funcom announced Conan Chop Chop, a game that wanted to poke fun at current gaming trends.
Funcom was quite exaggerated at the time. They claimed there would be billions of dungeons available and a Battle Royale with 2000 players would be implemented. Furthermore, Conan Chop Chop was supposed to run in 12K, 360° Virtual Reality.
Many fans and the press found the game and the idea so well-developed that they wished it was not just an April Fools’ joke. Funcom listened and introduced Conan Chop Chop at the PCGamer press conference.
What Conan Chop Chop Offers
What are the features? The new trailer we included above already shows a bit of the “new” gameplay, which differs from the April version. The graphics have not changed, it remains a 2D adventure roughly in the “Legend of Zelda” style.
On the official website, you can find more information about the features. Thus, Conan Chop Chop offers:
- 1-4 player co-op
- a selection of well-known gods from the Conan universe
- Dangerous bosses like sandworms, the frost giant from Vanaheim, and Thoth-Amon himself
- A quest system
- Randomly generated dungeons
The combat system currently seems rather simple, but offers customization options for equipment, skills, and combos. This strongly resembles a hack & slash.
With the existing enemies, Funcom has really gone to town. Classic foes like skeletons await you, as well as unusual enemies like brains on spider legs.
When and where can I play Conan Chop Chop? Conan Chop Chop is set to release on September 3, 2019, for PC, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One. It already has its own store page on Steam.
By the way, Conan Chop Chop is not the first April Fools’ joke that has been implemented:
