In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 there are 11 modes in total. Some could not be more different. That is why we list all available modes for you, show you what they entail, and explain which type of player they suit.
What modes exist in MW3? There are a total of 11 modes. However, one must differentiate a bit, as two of them are designed for 32vs32 players, one is a new 3vs3vs3 mode, while the remaining eight activities are geared towards 6vs6 matches. The following modes have been implemented by Infinity Ward:
- 6vs6 Modes
- 3vs3vs3 Modes
- 32vs32 Modes
In the following part of the post, we briefly explain the objective of the activity, as well as which type of player it is suitable for. If you are looking for a specific mode, you can tap on the names in our list. They will take you straight to the spot you are looking for.
If you would like to see a trailer for the multiplayer and MW3, we have just the right thing for you:
Team Deathmatch
What kind of mode is this? Team Deathmatch is the most well-known mode in CoD. In this, two teams compete against each other. The team with the most kills wins. There are no further tasks to complete here, only the kills count.
Who is this for? This mode is particularly for players who want to warm up or just play a round casually. Here you do not have to pay much attention to tactics and can just have a bit of fun with friends or solo.
Free for All
What kind of mode is this? Also an old classic from CoD is “Free for All”. In this mode, you compete solo against other solo players and must reach the point limit through kills. Everyone is on their own.
Who is this for? Free for All can be well used for practice. You can train how you need to react in gunfights to be victorious. Basically, this mode is for anyone who wants to have fun or test their skills.
Domination
What kind of mode is this? In Domination, you compete against a team and must capture, defend, and hold three fixed points on the map. The team that has gained the most points through these zones wins the match.
Who is this for? Domination is also one of those modes that you can play to relax. Depending on the map, opponents can be quickly taken out, and many weapon kills can be achieved. So if you want to test a new setup, Domination would be more suited for you.
Search & Destroy
What kind of mode is this? In Search & Destroy, two teams compete against each other. One team has to place the bomb in zone A or B, while the other team must take out the bomb planters and defuse the bomb.
Who is this for? Search and Destroy is a tactical mode where you must coordinate with your team. Respawns are disabled, so you cannot storm into battle like Rambo, as this would negatively impact your team.
This mode is thus mainly for those who like to choose their steps strategically and carefully to secure victory boldly.
Control
What kind of mode is this? In Control, you team up with your teammates against a 6-player squad and must alternately defend or capture two zones. The first team to win three rounds wins the match.
Who is this for? Control is a relaxed mode for campers and players who want to play fast games. The mode quickly goes from the stage, and with good teammates, you will also win one or two rounds.
Kill Confirmed
What kind of mode is this? In Kill Confirmed, you must eliminate enemies as a team and collect their dropped dog tags. Sabotage your enemy by picking up fallen comrades’ dog tags to deny their kill.
Who is this for? Players who like to farm kills and maneuver smartly through the map will do well in this mode. Also, players who enjoy hanging out in Team Deathmatch will find it enjoyable. The two modes only differ by the mechanics of the dog tags.
Hardpoint
What kind of mode is this? In Hardpoint, you will be thrown onto the map with your team and must find and occupy a randomly generated position on the map. Per second, the attackers earn points. But be careful, the position changes constantly on the map. The team that has earned the most points through positions wins.
Who is this for? Players who can move confidently and quickly through the map are made for “Hardpoint”. The key here is especially to keep the opposing team at bay for a long enough time until enough points have been collected. So you also have to proceed with a pinch of strategy to succeed.
War
What kind of mode is this? In War, you compete as a team against an opposing squad and must complete tasks. Air defense positions are taken, tanks are escorted, and upload bridges are built.
Who is this for? War is for those who want more objectives in multiplayer instead of just shooting their enemies. The mode can be played well solo but also in a team.
Ruthless
What kind of mode is this? Ruthless is a new mode where three teams of three compete against each other. Enemies that are taken out remain dead until a new round starts, unless you are revived by your teammates. The team that wins the first three rounds wins the match.
Who is this for? The mode is especially suitable for players with a coordinated trio, where you can communicate with each other. This way, you can safely win the match.
Ground War
What kind of mode is this? This is one of the two large modes. You will be thrown into a large map with vehicles as a 32-player squad and must capture zones like in Domination. The team that has collected the most points wins.
Who is this for? For every player who is looking for action. In Ground War, you will find a lot of fun, freedom, and especially room for tactical players or casual soldiers who want to discover something new. Mistakes can be forgiven as so many colleagues can intervene in the team.
However, it can be difficult to get into a rhythm at the beginning.
Invasion
What kind of mode is this? Invasion is the last big mode in CoD MW3 and also allows you to land on one of the large maps. Your goal is to eliminate the opposing team to collect points. The team that reaches the point limit wins.
Who is this for? Those with a desire for a huge round of Team Deathmatch will be happy in Invasion. The maps offer plenty of space for all types of players among you. Campers, rushers, or the sweaty pro from next door will feel at home in Invasion.
That was all the modes from CoD MW3. Do you already have a favorite mode or are you still undecided? Feel free to leave us a comment with your opinion.
