CoD MW2: Latest Nvidia drivers cause your game to crash on PC [Update]

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is not running smoothly on all platforms. While console players can happily game in multiplayer, PC players with an Nvidia graphics card have to deal with massive graphical issues. We show you a quick fix.

How can I prevent crashes on PC? Please note that this is a temporary workaround and not an official hotfix. Here are some things you can do to still be able to play on your PC with minimal issues:

• Install an older driver from Nvidia
  • If you have already downloaded driver version 526.47, the fight is not yet lost. You can download an older version of the driver from Nvidia’s website to overwrite the new version.
    • Here we have a link to an older version: Driver 522.25
• Manually switch your driver version
  • If you do not want to download an older version of the driver, you can also switch it manually. Go to your Device Manager and find your graphics card. Then open your graphics card properties and switch to the “Driver” tab. Now you need to click on “Previous Driver” to activate the last version of your driver.

Fix for Nvidia 526.47 is already in the works

When will an official fix be released? Nvidia itself has not prominently commented on the issues or made it aware. It was the PC team behind CoD, Beenox, that warned players on Twitter not to download the latest version of the driver:

As we had already reported in our solution proposals, Beenox announces that players should rather switch to older driver versions.

The news site “PCGamer” has thus contacted Nvidia to find out if a hotfix is already in development. According to Nvidia’s response: “A bug for this game (CoD: MW2) has been listed, for which a hotfix is already being created.”

However, when the hotfix will be released and how large it will be is still unknown. The fact is that with the mentioned solutions you can get into the shooter more relaxed and error-free – there were some problems on Steam for this reason as well.

What problems occur in version 526.47? If you download the latest driver version from Nvidia, you will encounter significant errors. These include:

• Micro stuttering
• Textures like walls or bushes disappearing for a few seconds
• The image flickers
• Game crashes
