Crossplay in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 allows you to play with friends across the boundaries of your platform. MeinMMO reveals the most important details about the feature.
What is Crossplay? Crossplay allows you to play with friends, regardless of whether you all use the same platform.
You can easily play with friends on PC or Xbox Series X/S even if you are using a PS5 or PS4. Crossplay is available for all multiplayer modes, whether you prefer classic multiplayer like Team Deathmatch or you like to play the coop modes of CoD like Special Ops and Raids or Warzone.
To use the crossplay feature, you need a Battle.net account or an Activision account. If you do not have one of these accounts yet, you can create one for free as soon as you want to play online for the first time. Alternatively, you can also create an account through their respective websites.
Here’s what you need to do:
- Create a Battle.net account or an Activision account
- Start the game and log in with the respective account
- In the game, you need to navigate to the “Options” tab in the menu
- (Only PlayStation) – Under the “Account” tab you will find “Crossplay” where you can enable or disable the option with a switch
- To invite friends to play, you need to navigate to the “Social” tab in the menu
- There you will find the option “Invite Friends”
- Use the Activision or Battle.net ID for that
- You can find your own ID in the top right corner of the main menu

Can you disable Crossplay?
Crossplay is always turned on by default – Currently, it can only be deactivated without issues on PlayStation.
To do this, navigate to the “Options” button in the menu. There you will find the “Account” tab and there “Crossplay”. With a toggle switch, you can deactivate the feature and reactivate it if needed.
On PC, you cannot turn off the option at all, on Xbox only for most modes:
However, it is definitely worth a look into the options, as with a few adjustments you can improve your gaming experience. Adjust your audio settings to hear your enemies from afar.
Can you add friends from other platforms? Yes, this is easily possible and very simple. To add your friends from other platforms to your friend list or group, you must first be logged in with your Battle.net or Activision account. Then go to the menu and navigate to the “Social” tab, where you will find the option “Invite Friends”.
The easiest way is to add friends using the Activision or Battle.net ID. You can find your own ID in the top right corner of the main menu. The ID is formatted as follows: Username#1235.
What about Cross-Progression?
Crossplay and Cross-Progression, what is the difference? Cross-Progression is another feature of CoD: Modern Warfare 2. It ensures that your game progress is saved across platforms.
This happens automatically through your Battle.net or Activision account and applies to both single-player and multiplayer. Thanks to Cross-Progression, you can easily switch from the console in your living room to the PC in your office without losing your progress – your game settings will also be transferred.
