With weapon skins in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, you not only look cooler, but you also show how much experience you have with a weapon. The skins are unlocked over time through weapon levels and challenges. The rarest ones require a lot of work.
Which is the rarest skin? All skins are sprays for the corresponding weapons. Currently, there are three skins that you need to invest a lot of time in:
- Gold
- Platinum
- Damascus
Sprays themselves are cosmetics with which you can customize your appearance. The Damascus spray is by far the rarest skin. You only get this once you have already unlocked the Gold and Platinum skins. We explain to you exactly how it works.
Get Gold, Platinum and Damascus Camo
How do I get Gold skins? You get the Gold sprays as the first of the three skins, but you will also need a considerable amount of time here. To obtain them, you must first unlock all spray categories of a weapon. The categories are:
- Sprayer
- Woodland
- Digital
- Dragon
- Splinter
- Topo
- Tiger
- Stripes
- Reptile
- Skulls
The level at which you unlock the categories depends on the weapon. However, you must complete all challenges in each category and unlock all skins (a total of 100 per weapon).
The challenges mostly involve kills in specific ways in the various multiplayer modes. If you complete all challenges for sprays, you will receive the Gold skin.

How do I get Platinum skins? You unlock the Platinum skins for each weapon class. To obtain the Platinum sprays, you need the Gold sprays for each weapon of a class.
This means, for example, that to get the Platinum skins for assault rifles, you need to unlock all skins for all assault rifles, with the exception of the new Obsidian camos. The same applies for shotguns, submachine guns, etc.
How do I get the Damascus spray? The Damascus spray is the “Mastery Camo” and will likely soon be the new hallmark of skill as a replacement for the missing prestige levels.
The skin is automatically unlocked for all weapons once you have unlocked the Platinum spray for all weapons. So you need all skins for all weapons before you receive the Damascus skin. That amounts to a staggering 3,774 skins you need.
What do you think of the skin? Are you willing to put in the effort, or is the spray not worth it to you? By the way, here you can find out what mounted weapons in Modern Warfare are and why they are so important for earning the Damascus weapon camouflage:
