Players have noticed a major issue in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Apparently, some camera angles are incorrect – and this causes a strong weapon attachment to suddenly be deadly for you.
This is the attachment in question: The attachment in question is the tactical laser. You can attach it to many weapons via the gunsmith feature in the laser slot. Its advantages are:
- ADS speed
- Target stability
- Target stability while running
As a drawback, opponents can see the laser (even without night vision). Nevertheless, it is one of the strongest attachments, as it is the only laser that helps reduce ADS speed.
Because many good players forgo scopes to get to their sights faster, the laser is so strong. It is only visible when players are already aiming down sights (ADS), which makes it even stronger for this function.
The laser is therefore also popular among snipers and is one of the tips to become a better sniper. It is also part of one of the best builds and setups for the strong M4A1.
Laser makes you visible, but the camera is to blame
This is the problem: In a reddit thread, user Xeccess pointed out that the laser can be seen around corners. It hides behind a container on the popular map Shoot House and aims at a passage.
Since he has mounted his weapon and is therefore “in sight”, the laser is visible. However, to stop opponents from detecting it, he aims at a wall. This way, he wants to block the laser so that it is not seen.
However, that does not work. An opponent appears and takes him out immediately. In the killcam, it is shown that the laser was clearly visible, even though Xeccess was actually aiming at the wall.
How does this happen? Apparently, it is caused by a bug with the camera angles. The angles displayed for players do not fully match what opponents can see. This is also shown in a short clip by user Piece_of_Sheet.
There it is shown how he gets slaughtered in Azir Cave by an opponent who comes sliding around the corner at high speed.
In a frame-by-frame capture, he shows that a few pixels of the opponent were visible for exactly 33 milliseconds (2 frames at 60FPS). That shouldn’t be enough to take him out directly.
Generally, the rule of thumb in shooters is: if you can see the face, he can take you out. However, this is not the case in this clip – and a possible reason for the love-hate relationship some players have with Modern Warfare:
