Activision and Infinity Ward have introduced Season 1 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare in a roadmap. Soon you can expect new maps, modes, weapons, or SpecOps experiences. We will show you what to look forward to from December.
Many have been waiting for this: It has been known for some time that Season 1 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is set to start in December. However, there have been few official details about it until now.
Now Activision and the developers at Treyarch have finally presented the content that awaits you in Season 1 of Modern Warfare.
What to expect in Season 1 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
So when does Season 1 start exactly? The start date of Season 1 has now been announced. The first season begins on Tuesday, December 3rd – on all platforms.
Last year was different. In Black Ops 4, the Call of Duty from the previous year, PC and Xbox One had to wait a week longer for new content than PS4.
Who can play the content? All players have free access to the content presented here. So everyone can dive into the new content. There will be no paid annual pass or DLCs.
However, it should be noted: Not all the presented content will be available immediately on December 3rd. They will be rolled out piece by piece throughout Season 1.
So many free contents as never before? Yes, at least that is what Call of Duty: Modern Warfare promises. According to the in-house roadmap, Season 1 will be the largest free content drop in the history of all Call of Duty.
What about the Battle Pass? Also in December, the new Modern Warfare is set to receive a Battle Pass system. There will no longer be loot boxes, by the way.
The pass will contain a free rewards branch for all players and a premium branch for players who purchase the Battle Pass. Gameplay-relevant items such as base weapons, as well as new cosmetics, will be available for all to earn freely. Purchasers will be able to earn additional cosmetic items.

Modern Warfare Season 1 – At least 6 new maps
There will be numerous new maps, including for the classic 6vs6, but also for the large Ground War mode and the fast-paced 2vs2 Gun Fight.
As a leak had already hinted, some fan favorites from earlier installments are also included – such as Crash.
By the way, these are likely not all the maps that will come to the game as part of Season 1, at least according to a hint in the official blog.
New regular maps:
- Crash
- Vacant
- Shipment
Three maps are already known from previous installments in the series.
New Ground-War map:
- Port
The new large map is set around an industrial harbor.
New 2vs2 maps:
- Cargo
- Atrium
These are comparatively smaller maps designed specifically for the fast-paced 2vs2 mode.
Modern Warfare Season 1 – At least 3 new modes
Which modes are coming? The first season of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will bring 3 new modes for traditional multiplayer:
- Reinforce: A mix of Domination and Search & Destroy. You only have one life. Two teams fight for control over 3 flags.
- On Site Procurement (OSP) for Gun Fight: A tactical 2vs2 format with a twist: You start without weapons and collect equipment throughout the match.
- Infected: It’s about hunting or being hunted in this mode, which is likely already known from previous CoD installments.
This is how Infected works (so far): One player starts as the infected, the rest as survivors. The goal is to kill the infected and survive until the round time runs out. If you are killed by an infected player, you become infected yourself and continue playing for the other side.
Modern Warfare Season 1 – At least 4 new SpecOps experiences
What’s new for coop? Coop fans should also get their money’s worth. Because at least 3 new SpecOps experiences will be introduced in the game as part of Season 1. These include
- Bomb Squad: Loyal Barkov followers have placed explosives in the city of Al-Raab. You are to defuse the situation.
- Grounded: Enemies have taken over Barkov’s former air base. You are to eliminate them.
- Pitch Black: Infiltrate Barkov’s former estate and secure important reconnaissance data before you need to escape in a tactical rover.
- Just Reward: The objective for your team is the head of a hostile financial operation. You are to hack their data centers and collect reconnaissance data.
Incidentally, throughout Season 1, you should look out for additional SpecOps content.
Modern Warfare Season 1 – 2 new weapons through the Battle Pass
What new weapons are coming? Through the Battle Pass for Season 1, all players will be able to grab 2 new base weapons. It does not matter whether you buy the Battle Pass or not.
The two weapons are
- Ram 7: an automatic assault rifle in the style of the TAR-21 with the corresponding bullpup design
- Holger-26: a LMG (Light Machine Gun) in the MG36 style with an integrated scope rail and a drum magazine for additional ammunition capacity
What does base weapons mean? This has not been clearly explained so far, but it likely refers to the regular weapons in the game. However, there are also weapons or rather weapon variants that you obtain from blueprints. These are likely the weapons that stand in contrast to those that can also be earned from the Battle Pass (Note: this is just an assumption for now!)
The regular weapons can only be obtained in their base form and can then be further developed through weapon ranks to unlock new attachments. The weapons from the blueprints have an alternative appearance and already certain modifications unlocked. The complete package of the weapon and its corresponding attachments can be used even if you have not yet unlocked the base version of the weapon.
Will there be more info on the Battle Pass? Yes, on December 3rd, all 100 reward levels from the Battle Pass as well as other in-depth details about Season 1 will be revealed.
