With the new update, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare now introduces a proper competition mode for everyone – initially as a beta. Players can now compete in 2vs2 gunfight tournaments. And the grand prize is well received.
What is the tournament all about? On November 25, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare received a new update. This brought some fixes along with a new mode – a tournament mode in 2vs2 gunfight format (Gunfight), initially as a beta version for a limited time. Such a mode was already announced during the 2vs2 gunfight alpha.

2vs2 Gunfight Competition – What you need to know about the tournament beta
How can you participate? Everyone can participate, regardless of platform – on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The mode is already live, so you can start immediately if you have installed the latest update in-game.
This is what makes gunfight special: The tournament is played in the 2vs2 format within the gunfight mode. It involves intense battles in specially designed, relatively small maps created specifically for gunfight.
With constantly changing, pre-defined loadouts, the goal is to quickly eliminate the opposing team or survive with more remaining team health. There are no respawns, health regeneration, or revives. You have only one life.
This is how the tournament works: You can select the tournament under the similarly named option in the multiplayer menu.
You can either start the tournament with a friend or get assigned a teammate if you are playing solo.
First, you will need to wait a few minutes for tournament matchmaking before you can compete with your team.
A total of 32 players and 8 teams are organized in a tournament bracket and compete against each other – in an elimination knockout format. Those who win a match advance until in the 8th match, the final, two teams meet and compete for 1st place. And it’s worth it in the eyes of many players.
By the way, the tournament is not a one-time event; you can easily participate multiple times. There is no limit.
What can you win? In the preliminary rounds, you can earn an emblem and XP, so you will continue leveling up normally during the tournament.
Quarter-finalists receive more XP and a brass knuckle, semi-finalists get more experience points and an emblem, and in the final, you compete for the biggest XP boost and a blueprint for the .50 GS handgun, giving the pistol an alternate appearance.
And this is well received by the fans. Not only does the new look of the Desert Eagle look really cool – many are excited that it can be earned directly, rather than having to draw it from a loot box with a 0.001% chance like before.

How have the 2vs2 gunfight tournaments been received so far? Overall, the new tournament mode is well received.
There are some players who encounter bugs or have issues getting into the tournament because they get stuck in matchmaking for a long time. However, some of them note that it is ultimately a beta. Such difficulties should indeed be somewhat expected there.
Many can, however, play without issues and note that the mode is very entertaining and fun – even if one has not really warmed up to gunfight itself. Many are particularly excited about the grand prize.
Some even believe this tournament is the best thing Modern Warfare has brought since its release.
It remains to be seen whether more tournament formats will come to the game and whether they will be available regularly after the beta.
Have you tried the new tournament mode? What do you think of this new competition system for everyone? And how do you find the rewards?
